The 2017 Summer Friendship Camp for Vietnamese and Laotian children held in Nha Trang on August 15 with many interesting activities helped the children of the two countries to exchange and learn each other's culture. This also helped the relationships between Viet Nam and Laos become tighter.
The 2017 Summer Friendship Camp for Vietnamese and Laotian children held in Nha Trang on August 15 with many interesting activities helped the children of the two countries to exchange and learn each other’s culture. This also helped the relationships between Viet Nam and Laos become tighter.
The children used English, Vietnamese and Laotian to communicate with each other. Some Laotian students who are studying at Air Force Officer Training School (Nha Trang) also helped with the interpretation.

“Prior to the camp, I had learned to speak some common Lao words and phrases to communicate with Laotian friends. I watched Laotian Lamvong dance on TV, and I am very interested in it. Thanks to this camp, I have learned and known how to dance Lamvong,” said Vo Van Bao, students of Nguyen Van Troi High School.
The camping attendees visited and took part in many games at Nhan Tam Ecological Tourist Site, such as obstacle passing, balance bridge, net crawl, zip line over river, etc. Catching fish with “nơm”, a typical fishing tackle of Vietnam, created the most exciting atmosphere among the games. Phudanong, a Laotian camping attendee, said, “This is the third time I have visited Vietnam. The last two times I went to Da Nang and Cua Lo. The people in Nha Trang are very friendly. They taught me some common Vietnamese words and phrases. I hope that the exchange programs between the children of Vietnam and Laos will continue to be held.”
Within the framework of the camp, the children joined a cultural exchange program and a campfire at Khanh Hoa Provincial Children’s House. Speaking a the exchange program, Nguyen Tan Tuan, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, affirmed the close-knit relationship between Vietnam and Laos in general and Khanh Hoa and Laos in particular. Every two years, the mission of Khanh Hoa’s youths takes part in the voluntary activities to offer support to the difficult areas in Attapeu Province of Laos. Those activities have also been the opportunities to deepen the relationships between the two countries. Nguyen Tan Tuan also expressed his wishes for the everlasting relationships between Vietnam and Laos.

“We have received a very warm welcome from Khanh Hoa in particular and Vietnam in general. This land is like our second homeland. Through this camp, the connection between children of Vietnam and Laos has been reinforced, contributing to strengthen the relationship between two sides. In the future, we hope that the activities for the children of the two countries will be promoted more strongly through cultural exchanges, supportive programs for pupils and students, etc.,” said Alouxay Sounnalath, Deputy Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union.
According to Nguyen Long Hai, Secretary of Youth Union Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Council of Young Pioneer Organization, this is the first time the Summer Friendship Camp for Vietnamese and Laotian children has been organized in Vietnam. The camp is held to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Lao diplomatic relationship and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. In the future, the Youth Union Central Committee will strengthen cooperation and exchange activities between the youths and children of the two countries.
