Le Dang Khanh, Cam Phuc Nam Ward, Cam Ranh City, has been known not only for his dedicated blood donation but also for his effort to encourage his family members to join the life-saving donation. His family with nearly 160 times of blood donation has been rewarded a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister.


After serving in the army on Sin Cowe Island, Truong Sa District, Le Dang Khanh returned to his village and earned his living as a farmer growing mangoes and cashews and a builder. “One day, my son had an accident and he was taken into Khanh Hoa General Hospital. During days taking care of him in the hospital, I found many patients in need of blood transfusion. The idea of blood donation flashed through my mind. I was so happy to be able to give blood after refused twice because of health. Since then, whenever there is a blood donation campaign, we are off work to join the event,” says Le Dang Khanh, who has donated 45 times and his wife, Nguyen Thi Ty, 33 times.


“I felt a bit worried about the first blood donation but I was soon motivated by the thought of benefits of the life-saving donation. Then we encouraged our son, daughter-in-law, nieces and nephews to donate blood,” adds Nguyen Thi Ty, who also joins urgent blood donation to give blood to a patient in need in Khanh Hoa General Hospital. Apart from a collection of certificates of merit for blood donation, Le Dang Khanh has a notebook with used for writing about his family members’ blood donation: Quoc Viet: 14 times, Dong So: 12 times, Van Tu: 10 times, Duy Tan: 8 times, Bao Toan: 8 times, Duy Dat: 5 times, Lam Bach: 5 times, etc. “I also took note of each family member’ blood group in case of emergency need for donation at Red Cross or the hospital,” confirms Le Dang Khanh.

12 members in his family have donated blood 160 times in total. In addition, he has encouraged his neighbours, especially young people, to join blood donation. Le Dang Khanh is a dedicated blood donor. He has also encouraged his wife, siblings and relatives to join the blood donation. He is also the Director of the Marrow Donor Club, says Truong Vinh Ky, Chairman of Cam Phuc Nam Ward Red Cross.

Le Dang Khanh and his family have been rewarded many certificates of merit and commemorative medals by Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, National Red Cross, etc for 14 years. He has just had an honor to receive a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister for his blood donation. 2 families, including that of Le Dang Khanh and 2 individuals received certificates of merit by the Prime Minister for blood donation. Le Dang Khanh and his family members have contributed to promoting blood donation in the community, helping to maintain a regular blood supply for life-saving. He is a good example deserving of highly honor, says Nguyen Minh Chanh, Chairman of Cam Ranh City Red Cross.
