After 1 year of developing a scheme on building a civilized and friendly city, Nha Trang City has developed various activities to raise public awareness of behavior principles, contributing to making Nha Trang more and more beautiful and attractive.
Nha Trang Bay Management Board has developed the model “cultured, civilized and safe port”. In addition, to better serve tourists, Nha Trang Bay Management Board has installed 2 drinking water faucets, free wifi and security cameras, helping delinquency prevention and order maintenance. Besides, firefighting and rescue crews have been strengthened are founded. Biodiversity protection signs have been set up. Genuine customer-friendly attitude has been promoted, etc. Nguyen Thuy Oanh, Deputy Head of the Nha Trang Bay Management Board says, “In the time to come, we will set up a website vinhnhatrang.net to propagandize the laws, promote the tourist destination of Nha Trang Bay, put dustbins to collect and classify trash in Hon Mun. All organic trash will be treated and turned into fertilizer. Inorganic waste will be brought to the mainland, etc. All of the activities aim to make Nha Trang more beautiful and attractive to tourists.”
The Division of Urban Management has cooperated with local authorities, especially the police to build a pilot scheme on founding interward task group and equipping with specialized vehicles for urban order tasks; launched inspection campaigns, temporarily allowed trade in pavement space in 27 streets; maintained and repaired the path to the airport; maintained and repaired 44 streets; and widened some pedestrian streets, says the division leader.
Departments and agencies in Nha Trang City have held many activities in response to the scheme such as building 8/8 communes to meet the new rural construction standards, 19/19 wards to meet urban civilized standards; installing security cameras in tourist places, organizing environmental protection campaigns, developing behavior principles in workplace, building civilized markets at Vinh Hai, Phuong Son and Phuoc Thai; building a friendly image of soldiers helping tourists crossing streets, etc. Nha Trang Radio Station has integrated propaganda in 4 languages such as Vietnamese, English, Russian and Chinese ; built the so-called self-managed roads; collected and treated waste water and trash, etc. According to the leader of Nha Trang City People’s Committee, the development of the scheme will contribute to promoting the tourist destination of Nha Trang City.

Ngo Van Thanh, a tourist from Hanoi says, “I’m a bit surprised at a glass of sugarcane juice at just VND6,000. All restaurants have reasonable prices. I have been to many places of interest and Nha Trang left me great impression. The beach is clean, people are friendly and we can get help when crossing streets.” However, during the implementation of the scheme, the city has not mobilized organizations, individuals and businesses to sign pledges to develop civilized and friendly lifestyles and traffic order violation has also been found.
“Our tasks include keeping urban and traffic safety. I hope all local authorities should make greater effort to fulfill order management tasks in their localities,” says Ngo Khac Thinh, Deputy Chief of Nha Trang City Urban Management Office. Building Nha Trang to become a civilized and friendly city is the responsibility of all local agencies, departments and people, among whom public sector staff and tourist businesses play an important role. The crucial task is to change the way of thinking towards quality and business prestige as top priorities.
In the time to come, the city needs to further propagandize behavior principles in tourism; boost administrative reforms for prompt procedures and professional service; improve urban infrastructures to become modern, safe and friendly in an effort to create a sound and civilized environment in the city, according to Nguyen Sy Khanh, Vice-Chairman of Nha Trang City People's Committee.
