Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has focused on selecting and further training excellent school students in Khanh Hoa Province in order to boost their distinguished academic achievements.

This school year, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training plans to hold 2 provincial excellent student contests, one for senior high schools on October 11-13 and one for junior high schools on March 14-15, 2018. The contests include 10 subjects, namely mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, literature, history, geography, English and French. Different from previous contests, this year, 9th-graders of Le Quy Don Gifted School will compete in the exam and no team prizes will be awarded.

Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has required for the number of contestants as follows, minimum 15 contestants/ subject (excluding French) for Le Quy Don Gifted School, maximum 5 contestants/ subject for other high schools, minimum 15 contestants/ French for Nguyen Van Troi High School, Nha Trang City; and minimum 2-16 contestants/ subject for junior high schools. Winners the provincial excellent student contests will get further training for the National Excellent Student Contest 2018 held by the Ministry of Education & Training.

To get well-prepared for the excellent student contests at all levels, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has required teachers to discover, identify and select talented students based on their academic performance, teachers’ suggestions and results of excellent student contests at school level. The short-listed students will get opportunities for further training. The selection standard allows supplementing new students with high academic achievement or unselecting those not yet qualified.

Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has directed schools to open high-quality classes and organize excellent student contests for 8th-graders, 10th-graders and 11th-graders at the end of the 2nd semester. Excellent students’ teams will be founded for fostering to enter the provincial excellent student contests, according to Le Tuan Tu, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training.

This year, Le Quy Don Gifted School opens 80 enrichment classes for excellent students, up 40 classes compared with the last school year. The first training program is scheduled in summer, from May to August; and then continue in September; and the second one will be in preparation for the National Excellent Student Contest. Besides carefully-compiled materials, teachers instruct students to search for suitable materials for self-studying. The school also cooperates with some gifted schools in neighboring provinces to provide students with opportunities to meet and learn from some leading professors and experts. Hopefully, excellent students’ academic achievement will soar, says Nguyen Tho Minh Quang, Principal of Le Quy Don Gifted School.
