Youngsters have had a high traffic violation rate in recent years. Therefore, several road safety education activities have been held to raise road traffic law among Youth Union members and young adults.
The 2017 “Young people with traffic culture” Day has just been held by Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union at 2-4 Square, Nha Trang City with the participation of more than 1,000 Youth Union members and young people in Khanh Hoa Province. The event included local traffic report, safe driving practice and games. Yamaha Vietnam technicians provided young people with safe driving skills such as checking vehicles to ensure they are safe to drive before setting off on a journey, defensive driving, how to choose and wear helmets properly, etc. The defensive driving techniques are important to keep drivers and others safe on the road. “The extracurricular activity help us get more knowledge about road safety rules,” says Nguyen To Hoai Thuong, a student at Pham Van Dong High School.
39% of traffic accidents victims are among drivers aged 18-27 nationwide. Serious traffic accidents caused by people in the young age group are on the increase. Therefore, it is essential to organize road safety propaganda activities, like “Young people with traffic culture” Day held by Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union. Besides, road safety rules and regulations need to be integrated in activities held by the Youth Union, organizations and extracurricular school activities, according to Nguyen Trong Thai, Chief of the National Traffic Safety Committee’s Office
The Youth Union at all levels has focused on traffic law education to its members and young people with a variety of activities to maintain and improve traffic safety such as handing out brochures; hanging up posters and banners; organizing cultural and musical shows, traffic safety days, etc to develop appropriate traffic safety knowledge, attitudes, skills and behaviors.
Particularly, models to improve safety around school gates joined by young volunteers have proved effective. Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union in association with some units such as Honda Vietnam and Yamaha Vietnam annually holds the “Young people with traffic culture” Day with safe driving training and competitions for the youth. Besides, 10 road safety classes are held in districts, towns and at schools every year in an effort to raise public awareness of traffic safety.
In the time to come, Khanh Hoa Youth Union plans to continue promoting traffic education activities to raise the youth’s road safety awareness. Joint effort and support are required by all organizations and the society to effectively promote traffic culture among young adults, according to Nguyen Van Nhuan, Khanh Hoa Youth Union Secretary.
