Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association has joined effort in local health care and treatment together with preserving and developing traditional medicine.
The Traditional Medical Clinic, Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association in Sinh Trung Street, Nha Trang City has received man patients searching for medical treatment by acupuncture, use of herbal medicine, therapeutic massage, etc. A patient named Hoang Anh Thu, says, “I have a headache. I don’t want to take western medicines as they may cause side-effects. After acupuncture for a few days, my pain has relieved.” Most of the patients seeking for oriental medicine cure have some chronic diseases such as headache, Insomnia, body aches and pains, etc. Prescriptions may include acupuncture, medicinal herbs, herbal pills, therapeutic massage, etc.
Nguyen Thuong, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association says the Traditional Medical Clinic is among many others of 17 affiliations of the association. With nearly 700 practitioners, traditional medical clinics in Khanh Hoa have provided treatment for some 55,230 patient arrivals. Many experienced practitioners have had effective low-cost remedies. They include Vo Toan Trung, Phuoc Hoa Ward, Nha Trang City with the remedy for carpal tunnel syndrome; Nguyen Van Long, Cam Lam District with the remedy for itching and hives; Nguyen Van Dinh, Cam Ranh City well known for using herbal remedies to cure many diseases and so on. The achievements are due to great constant effort of its members in providing medical treatment, collecting and promoting effective traditional remedies.

The association has also held meetings to provide opportunities for practitioners to share experience in medical treatment and promotion of many good remedies. Over several years, Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association has collected and selected 169 remedies published in books and uploaded at the website http://hoidongykhanhhoa.com for reference. Therefore, the treatment quality has much improved. Especially, the medical treatment together with charity work, medical cost reduction or exemption has become regular activities done by Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association.
Every year, Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association at all levels holds many charity activities such as giving free or discounted medical examination, raising funds for eye surgeries and offering wheelchairs, scholarships and gifts worth over VND1.6 billion to 23,000 arrivals in Khanh Hoa Province, according to Nguyen Thuong.
Together with medical examination, Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association has also focused on building sample medicinal herb gardens with 114 medicinal herb gardens in medical stations in Khanh Hoa so far to raise awareness of their medicinal use. However, Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association has met difficulty in expanding sample medicinal herb gardens for lack of land for cultivation. “Years ago, many members used to have large sample medicinal herb gardens which has gradually decreased. We have boosted propaganda on benefits of Vietnamese traditional medicines; encouraged and guided residents to grow healing herbs for natural home remedies. In the time to come, Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association will strengthened its organized, develop its membership as well as support its members to improve medical care and treatment,” says Nguyen Thuong.
