Khanh Hoa Public Security’s Road & Rail Traffic Division has identified 40 unsafe traffic sites in Khanh Hoa Province and suggested solutions to local authorities to reduce accident risks and facilitate travel.

Surveyed high-risk sites in 7 districts and towns are reported with a high traffic volume and often seen with illegal parking, causing disruption to travelers. Besides, the streets are often damaged by flooding and erosion in some sections, include narrow turnings, etc.

Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Ngo Van Thao, Chief of Khanh Hoa Public Security’s Road & Rail Traffic Division says traffic police officers have cooperated with local authorities to conduct a 6-month traffic survey to identify high-risk sites and make solution suggestions. Accordingly, Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board has directed localities and relevant agencies to develop traffic safety approaches.

Specifically, measures have been proposed to tackle unsafe railway crossings in Van Ninh District and Cam Lam District; make some roadway signal adjustment to facilitate travel and improve traffic safety in such streets as Yersin Street, Tran Quang Khai Street, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, etc. Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board has also suggested Vietnam Road Administration III would direct its affiliations to deal with roadway problems on the National Roads 1, 27C, etc, especially, in high-risk sections.

A leader of Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board says 2 months after the instruction was issued, local communities and relevant agencies have joined effort in taking measures to improve road safety in 20 high-risk sites so far. Bui To Hoai, Director of Vietnam Road Administration III says there still exist some unsafe crossings on national roads managed by Vietnam Road Administration. Vietnam Road Administration III has required investors and contractors to install yellow traffic lights at the sites for drivers to slow down and take more caution. Cases of road space encroachment are also being handled.

The company has suggested building a collector road from Km1331+600 to Km1332+250 in Cam Lam, according to Nguyen Van Hao, Vice-Director of Phu Khanh Railway Company.

In the time to come, the Road & Rail Traffic Division will continue conducting a traffic study and cooperating with local authorities to develop traffic safety approaches and suggest localities and relevant agencies to install traffic signals and assign staff for traffic distribution and regular patrol at high-risk sites to enhance traffic safety for road users and vehicles, says Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Ngo Van Thao.
