Repair work sped up

In 2017, Khanh Hoa Province has allocated funding for the repair of the provincial road 8B and rural district road 3.  The work progress is being accelerated. 65% of the work, including more than 11,500 m2 asphalt, pavement consolidation and sewer drain grating on the provincial road 8B, has been completed. 95% of the district road 3 project has been completed with asphalt patching, sidewalk widening, etc. Other work on traffic signs, pavements and so on is being done. In addition, 2 traffic constructions, Khanh Binh-Khanh Hiep and the rural district road 62 are underway, using the central road maintenance fund with 70-80% of work completed so far. The work mainly includes asphalt patching to ensure smooth road surface to facilitate travel.

Particularly, thanks to the concern of the Ministry of Transport, Khanh Hoa Province has been allocated to construct 13 local bridges in disadvantaged communities. The project on Binh Loc 2 Bridge in Van Ninh District is underway with concrete bridge abutments and piers; Hai Trieu Bridge with 4 concrete stakes and 6 girders and a bypass; Can Stream and Tan Hiep Stream sewerages in Ninh Hoa Town with manholes and sewer connection being built; Mau River Bridge, Khanh Vinh District, with bridge abutments and piers, etc. The bridge projects are expected to finish in the first quarter of 2018.

The progress of road repair packages is being accelerated to be completed before the rainy season. However, the hot asphalt patching on the provincial 8B and Khanh Binh- Khanh Hiep road has been suspended because of continuous rain for 3 months now. The contract has been allowed to be extended by 3 months. Inspectors are regularly present at the construction sites to make sure the work is performed according to the specifications, says Nguyen Cong Dinh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport.

Moreover, Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has directed units to carry out frequent inspections on main roads and cooperate with local authorities to encourage organizations and locals to join road repair effort to facilitate travel during floods.
