Typhoon Damrey has hit Khanh Hoa, killing at least 14 people, including 4 in Van Ninh District, 6 in Ninh Hoa Town, 1 in Dien Khanh District, 1 in Cam Ranh City and 2 in Nha Trang City, according to the November 4 report by Khanh Hoa Steering Board for Flood Control, Natural Disaster Relief & Rescue,.


The typhoon destroyed 302 homes and blew the roofs off 25,495 others, including 8,759 in Nha Trang City, 5,800 in Van Ninh District and 7,173 in Khanh Vinh District. 112 fishing boats were sunk. There was also extensive damage to 3,748ha of rice, 1,200ha of wheat and 1,119ha of other crops.


The typhoon destroyed and blew the roofs off many schools, medical stations and state offices. Some traffic works were damaged; thousands of trees and many electricity poles were flattened, causing widespread blackouts.


Joint recovery effort is underway to repair damages caused by the natural disaster.
