Over the past years, Khanh Hoa Farmers’ Association at all levels together with Khanh Hoa Border Defense Force has effectively joined effort to propagandize the law to locals in border zones and coastal and island areas; and boost economic development linked with national border security protection.


Cam Ranh Border Station soldiers and Farmers’ Association officials in 9 coastal communes and wards have frequently met with local order and security teams to update information about the local fishing practice and give fishermen safety working guide. In spite of heavy rain on December 25, Major Ha Van Nam, Deputy Head of Cam Ranh Border Station Mass Mobilization Team and Tran Duy My, Chairman of Cam Loi Ward Farmers’ Association together with members of Loi Thuy Self-Organizing Team, Cam Loi Ward patrolled along fishing boat harbors to remind fishermen of safety procedures before their fishing trips.


The provincial border line has a 185km coastline. People living in coastal and island areas mainly live by fishing and aquaculture.  Their life is still difficult with low intellectual level and poor legal knowledge. Therefore, In recent years, the provincial Farmers’ Association and Border Defense Force have signed and effectively implemented a coordination strategy adapting to local actual circumstances under the cooperation program between the Vietnam Farmers’ Union and the Border Defense Force Headquarters on mobilizing farmers of ethnic groups in border zones, coastal and island areas to boost production, economic, social and cultural development in association with protecting the national border sovereignty.

Khanh Hoa Farmers' Association at all levels has well implemented the cooperation program with border stations on joining effort to strengthen the Party, the Government and organizations; coordinate, propagandize, mobilize and effectively develop models to get farmers to engage in natural security assurance and security self-management in hamlets. The province has founded 23 teams of safe boats, 36 self-managing security teams, 7 teams of safe fishing boat harbors with a total of more than 500 members.
Besides, the association at all levels has frequently cooperated with borders stations to guide members to innovate economic development measures, actively respond to the emulation campaign on farmers’ household production and business efficiency, mutual support for poverty alleviation and well-being through production models, especially promoting the aquaculture and seafood processing strength.


To promote mutual support and solidarity, Khanh Hoa Farmers’ Association together with provincial Border Defense Force has effectively campaigns to provide housing grants and rice for the needy. Over the past 5 years, the two units have mobilized and provided VND5 billion aid to build 116 houses for the poor and repair 1 nursery school. Besides, the Border Defense soldiers have donated thousands of days of service and equipment to repair roads, houses and aquaculture farms damaged by natural disasters, especially recent Typhoon Damrey.


According to Nguyen Trong Trung, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Farmers’ Association, the cooperation program between Khanh Hoa Farmers’ Association and Khanh Hoa Border Defense Force has been effectively developed from the provincial to grassroots-levels, contributing to strengthening the political base of the maritime boundary. The cooperation has proved effective, contributing to boosting production and promoting economic, social and cultural growth; improving living standards, spiritual and material life; increasing the intellectual level; and raising farmers and fishermen’s awareness of compliance with the law in coastal and island areas.


Over the past years, Khanh Hoa Farmers’ Association in cooperation with Border Defense Force has held more than 2,000 law propaganda sessions for more than 86,000 member arrivals, mobilized 547 off-shore fishing boat owners to pledge not to encroach in the waters of foreign countries during their fishing practice; and jointly maintained more than 800 order and security patrols.
