Khanh Son District, Khanh Hoa Province is accelerating house repair and construction assistance provided for families hit by Typhoon Damrey and the task is expected to finish in January 2018.
Cao Thi Minh Le is among 27 families with house roofs blown off in the typhoon in Doc Gao Village, To Hap Town. Her family has received VND8 million relief and she has added VND10 million and workdays to rebuild her home. “I am so glad that my dream of a new home has become true,” happily says Cao Thi Minh Le.
Under the direction of To Hap Town Party Committee and People’s Committee, Doc Gao Village has mobilized local residents to help each other repair their houses. 25 houses have been repaired and the construction of 2 others is nearing construction. Housing grants have been delivered to the needy. 3 families have added their saving to the grants they have received to build their houses, according to Pham Thi Hong, Secretary of Doc Gao Village Party Cell.
Mau Ngu and Cao Thi Nhi, Hon Dung Village, Son Hiep Commune, are busy with final house construction phases. Mau Ngu’s family was made homeless after Typhoon Damrey. His family has used VND40 million aid from the Government together with a banking loan to rebuild his house. The house construction is nearing completion. He feels so happy with the thought that his family is going to have a firm place to live. “My family is poor and used to live in a dilapidated home. I feel safe and secure with the new house, especially when I have to work far from home,” he says.
Typhoon Damrey caused 10 houses to collapse completely destroyed 6 others and heavily damaged 128 houses in Khanh Son District. Apart from financial relief from the Government, many households have added their saving, building materials and labor to repair or rebuild houses in an effort to overcome the consequences of the natural disaster. The district has directed local authorities to help vulnerable families with the selection of building contracts.
21 poor families and marginally poor families’ houses were damaged in the typhoon in Ba Cum Bac Commune. 13 families have repaired the houses and the district has assigned building contractors for 8 families. Apart from financial aid from the district, the commune has also offered additional relief to repair houses damaged by Typhoon Damrey. Besides, 2 houses were blown off roofs by Tropical Storm Tembin. The construction of 23 houses mentioned above has completed, says Tro Xuan Pham, Vice-Chairman of Ba Cum Bac Commune People’s Committee.
The house repair and construction have been completed by over 70% and it is expected to finish by 100% in late January. Besides the assistance from the State and the province, the district has directed localities to conduct a survey of disadvantaged families to provide more support to assure a happy Lunar New Year holiday for everyone, says Phan Van Suu, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Son District People’s Committee.
