Nha Trang City is carrying out plans to assure traffic safety during the lunar New Year holiday 2018.
 
Nha Trang City Public Security’s Traffic Police Department has launched a concentrated inspection campaign to assure traffic safety in Nha Trang City before and after lunar New Year 2018, says Lieutenant-Colonel Nguyen Sy Hong, Chief of Nha Trang City Traffic Division.
 
During 1 month from December 22, 2017 to January 25, 2018, Nha Trang City Traffic Police imposed fines to 1,358 cases, including 709 cars and 649 motorbikes. The main violations were illegal parking (379 cases), driving the wrong way in one-way streets (83 cars); driving in the wrong direction or into forbidden streets (296 motorcycles); not wearing helmets (223 cases), failing to comply with police order (2 cases), deterring public servants (1 case), etc. The fines are estimated at nearly VND700 million. In addition, some business vehicles with foreign registration numbers have either had business licenses and nor fulfilled tax obligations in Vietnam.
 
Apart from the concentrated inspection campaign, Nha Trang City Traffic Police have also built plans on traffic flow distribution to prevent traffic congestion along some streets such as Tran Phu Street (at 2-4 Square, 86 Tran Phu; from Bao Dai Villas to Cau Da Tourist Port Vinh Nguyen); 2-4 Street (at the Ponagar Temples), 23-10 Street at Long Son Pagoda, path leading to the Northern Cemetery, etc. Especially, overloaded vehicles in Nha Trang City will be strictly punished. The traffic police have maintained patrols in high-risk areas during rush hours to deal with violation cases of parking for passenger pick-up and drop-off, etc.

In addition to the police force, Nha Trang City People’s Committee has also assigned 27 communes and wards to deal with 15 locations where road space is encroached by petty shops, street vendors, causing safety problems at Xom Moi Market, Vinh Hai Market and on Cai River Bank adjacent to Tran Phu Street. The city has asked leaders of 27 communes and wards to get engaged in assuring urban traffic safety and enhancing urban cleanliness; and take responsibility for the task results. 
 
Nha Trang City People’s Committee has also assigned the Urban management Office to preside over and build inspection plans on handling cases of road space encroachment in 12 main streets, namely Le Thanh Ton, Hung Vuong, Thong Nhat, Quang Trung, Thai Nguyen, Le Thanh Phuong, Yersin, Ly Thanh Ton, Nguyen Trai, Ngo Gia Tu, Nguyen Thien Thuat, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai. The Urban management Office is responsible for requesting investors and contractors for construction site clean-up before February 8 or the 23rd of the last lunar month, making records of administrative violations and providing the Chairman of the city People's Committee with consultancy to handle the violations according to regulations.
 
The concentrated inspection campaign aims to facilitate travel and assure traffic safety during the lunar New Year season; and prevent congestion and minimize traffic accidents, especially those related to drunk driving, says Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice-Chairman of Nha Trang City People’s Committee.
