Saigon Railway Transport Company (SRT) Nha Trang has made great effort to overcome challenges in business and improve rail service. The cargo and passenger output has increased significantly with considerable improvement in operation and service.
 
Change for the better
 
In 2017, the business operation of SRT Nha Trang met great difficulties with many targets for passenger and cargo transportation services unachieveable. Challenges included competitive pressure and complicated weather with prolonged hot days and floods. Particularly, Typhoon Damrey damaged Hao Son - Dai Lanh railway in many sections, causing traffic interruption for many days. Besides, infrastructures, storage and transport equipment have not met the requirements of business, affecting its competitiveness and service quality. 
 
Under corporation’ guideline "Providing services that are needed" changed from "Providing services available", many 5-star coaches have been built to serve sections with high passenger density such as Ho Chi Minh City- Nha Trang, contributing to improving rail service, says Le Hong Son, Vice-Director of SRT Nha Trang.
 
The branch regularly monitors the fluctuations in goods within its scope of management, to propose reasonably competitive prices to the company leaders to attract the flow of goods. In addition, the unit regularly surveys the market and works with agencies and enterprises in the Central Highlands, Tuy Hoa, Binh Dinh to introduce and provide transportation products and search for new customers.
 
In 2017, the branch signed transportation agreements with some new customers such as AGH Bac Giang Company, Binh Dinh Export Tapioca Starch Processing Company and Kon Tum Export Tapioca Starch Processing Company. The branch exceeded the planned targets for 2017 with nearly 1.05 million of passenger arrivals, achieving the year’s plan and accounting for 104% compared with last year; cargo transportation capacity of 125,000 tons, 103% compared with last year. The total turnover reached approximately VND330 billion, acounting for 102% of the plan and 106.95% compared with last year.

Striving for 8% increase in turnover
 
The branch sets the target of 8% increase in turnover in 2018 compared with the year 2017. Leaders of the branch say in 2018 its passenger service will continue improving by meeting punctuality standard and new coaches and high quality trains put into operation. Besides, flexible fares are available for each period to attract travelers. The branch will frequently keep track of the market and demand during peak periods such as national holidays, New Year and summer vacation to timely give suggestions on additional coaches or trains to raise capacity and turnover; or decrease coaches during off-peak periods to reduce cost.
 
At present, the sale of New Year train tickets is underway. Information about the tickets, schedule, fares, etc has been posted up. The branch frequently checks if there are any fluctuations in passenger numbers as well as ticket sales to make suggestions to SRT Company on additional trains to serve passengers when needed.
