Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Education & Training held a New Year meeting for ethnic minority students on February 9. Present at the event was Present at the event were Le Thanh Quang, Central Party Committee Member, Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Secretary; Le Xuan Than, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Khanh Hoa Province, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; and Nguyen Duy Bac, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee.
There are 409 ethnic minority students at 38 universities, colleges and vocational high schools nationwide in the 2017-2018 school year, up 17 students compared with the last school year. The ethnic minority students include 110 at university and 116 at college and 183 at vocational high school. Students major in pedagogy decreases by 1.8%, in medicine & pharmacy down by 1.5%. Those major in engineering and vocational training have increased by 21.8%. In 2017, the total expenditure for policies for ethnic minority students was more than VND1.9 billion.
Le Thanh Quang highly appreciated achievements made by ethnic minority students and encouraged them to make greater effort in study. He also requested local departments and agencies to continue providing consultancy for students to choose suitable training programs; and accommodate polices to best suit learning conditions of ethnic minority people.

On this occasion, Le Thanh Quang commended and awarded VND4 million each to 5 students graded very good and VND2 million each to 113 students graded good. Khanh Hoa People’s Committee awarded VND600,000 each to university students graded very good; VND400,000 each to university students graded good; VND400,000 each to college and vocational students graded very good and VND300,000 each to college and vocational students graded good.
