Khanh Hoa has decided to choose Nha Trang to pilot a model of building a smart city to make Nha Trang become as a civilized, modern and sustainable city.
Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has defined some main sectors to build Nha Trang to become a smart city such as tourism, urban planning and e-government, urban safety and smart education.
Tourism development is one of the strengths of Nha Trang City, contributing greatly to the development of Nha Trang City and Khanh Hoa Province. The province and the city will continue undertaking effectively tourism service management, planning and promotion to attract tourists and increase economic value of tourism. Urban construction and traffic planning are towards meeting the requirements and practicality of socio-economic development of the city, providing updated transparent information for local residents, businesses and investors.

Building eGovernment aims to improve the activities of public sector organizations with better services and information. Nha Trang City is trying to keep its prestige as a civilized, friendly and safe destination with safe and convenient services and sound environment.
Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has founded a steering board for building a pilot project on a smart city model. Khanh Hoa People’s Committee Chairman is the head of the steering board and Khanh Hoa Department of Information & Communications is its plenary agency.
In 2017, Khanh Hoa signed a cooperation agreement with Microsoft Vietnam on developing a pilot project on building smart Nha Trang City. Accordingly, priority from now to 2020 is given to main sectors such as tourism, urban planning, education, urban safety and e-government. The pilot project is expected to develop in 2 phases. Microsoft will provide Khanh Hoa with support in conducting survey, making the plan; provide consultancy on technological solutions and partner selection to develop the project.
After the signing ceremony, Microsoft has cooperated with provincial agencies to research smart city framework and groups of prioritized solutions to develop the project in Khanh Hoa; conduct a survey of smart travel situation, demand and solution consultancy in Nha Trang City; propose solutions and schedule for investment in technical infrastructure and information technology platform for the province to deploy smart tourism and smart city plan.
The pilot project is expected to develop in 2 phases. The first phase till the end of January 2018 focuses on building concept, ideas and models for the project; making procedures and preparing documents submitted to the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) for consideration and funding support to implement the project; The second phase (up to June, 2018) on building the pilot project and the overall implementation.
In many international conferences, experts have identified 3 smart city criteria such as effective infrastructures, sustainable development and friendly environment based on 6 criteria known as smart economy, smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, smart living and smart governance.
Building a smart city will promote the application and development of information technology in all aspects with e-government criterion taken as the focus. All will be for the purpose of building Nha Trang to become a civilized, modern and sustainable city.
