School students’ awareness of traffic safety in Khanh Hoa Province has much improved in recent years. However, further joint effort is required to promote traffic culture at school and thus reduce road accidents among young people.

There are 273,300 school students in Khanh Hoa Province. It is essential to teach children and teenagers how to stay safe on roads. Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has directed schools to integrate suitable traffic safety education programs with obligatory subjects and extracurricular activities themed traffic safety. Many primary schools and junior schools have run traffic safety broadcast programs at school.

Nguyen Minh A, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department’s Office of Politics & Ideas says traffic safety education needs the combination of theory and practice. Typical examples include “Ringing Golden Bell” competitions to raise school students’ awareness of road safety. Besides, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has cooperated with Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board and relevant agencies to hold contests namely “School Traffic” and “Traffic Safety for Future Smiles”.

k“Ringing Golden Bell” competition is held at Ly Tu Trong High School to raise students’ awareness of road safety.

In 2017, Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board in partnership with relevant agencies held 43 traffic safety propaganda sessions for nearly 6,800 school student arrivals. Various education tools were used to raise awareness of traffic safety through school broadcasts, brochures, the Internet, propaganda cars, etc. Schools engaged students and their parents in signing pledges to abide by road safety rules, etc.

Continuous traffic education for children was maintained to make sure children have sufficient knowledge and skills to participate in traffic. Violators were warned and reported to parents to enhance the education effectiveness. Abiding traffic rules is considered as one of the criteria to assess students’ conduct at school.

Khanh Hoa Standing Traffic Safety Board has cooperated with local agencies and schools to organize various activities to promote traffic culture among students. The year 2018 is designed as the year of traffic safety for children; therefore, educational agencies and local authorities will continue organizing and raising children’s awareness of traffic safety with strict enforcement of traffic rules and effective traffic education in order to achieve the purpose of reducing road traffic deaths among children and teenagers to 10% compared with the year 2017, according to Nguyen Cong Dinh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport, Vice-Head of Khanh Hoa Standing Traffic Safety Board.
