Going green is a responsible lifestyle that contributes towards environmental protection. Green living covers several different aspects of the green lifestyle relating to eco-friendly and sustainable travel which is all about keeping the environment tidy and thus creating a positive effect on the community.

Green travel

Thieu Van Sang, Nha Trang City, is an organizer of trekking tours known as green adventure that says no to littering.  “Some travelers dirty the places they visit by littering. I feel bad when seeing littering left behind by revealers on Diep Son Island, Van Thanh Commune, Van Ninh District and Co Tien Mountain. Therefore, every time we travel there, we all bring plastic baskets to pick up litter,” he says.

Thieu Van Sang is an administrator of a Nha Trang Phuot fanpage on facebook with more than 5,000 members. All of travelers are advised to keep the places they visit clean and collect all trash they see on the way.

Everyone joining the Journey to Easternmost point of Vietnam on March 24-25 brought trash bags to collect litter to take home to be sure there is no litter left in the area. The activity contributes to protecting the environment and it is considered as an effective way to raise public awareness, says Nguyen Thu Hang, a member of travel group to Easternmost point of Vietnam.

Responsible lifestyle

Young green travelers share the same opinion: “Going green is easy. We all can do it if we want to”, Nguyen Huu Tuan Vu, Phuoc Long Ward, Nha Trang City, a member of the Communist Youth Union of Khanh Hoa Provincial agencies, frequently joins environmental protection activities held by the Youth Union. “Green living is just simple by practical small acts such as properly disposing the trash, not littering, not burning plastic waste, not polluting the air, etc, says Nguyen Huu Tuan Vu. Nha Trang is a tourist city. Not littering also contributes to green living, says Tran Xuan Nhat, a student of Nha Trang University.

Green living tends to become more popular in everyday activities, including studying and working with environmental protection initiatives and projects developed by young people. Creation contests on environmental protection solutions held by the Youth Union and Department of Education have received practical ideas and solutions. Good examples include the treatment of Fe2 contaminated water (by Nguyen Chi Phuong Thanh at Ly Tu Trong High School, Nha Trang) awarded the fourth prize at the National 2017 - 2018 Scientific & Technical Contest in the Southern Region, held in Lam Dong Province; garbage pollution solution in Nha Trang City; applying techniques of the culture of sea snail and sea cucumbers in earthen ponds in Cam Ranh, etc at Khanh Hoa Provincial Creation Contests for young people held by Khanh Hoa Youth Union. The environmental solutions have been all highly appreciated.

Nguyen Van Nhuan, Khanh Hoa Youth Union's Secretary says to mitigate climate change and protect the environment, Khanh Hoa Youth Union has held a wide variety of practical activities such as responding to the Earth Hour and World Water Day; celebrating Green Sundays, clean-up days, etc.  Going green has become the trend among many young people, thus creating a positive effect on the community. In the time to come, Khanh Hoa Youth Union plans to enhance propaganda on the responsible lifestyle via information channels of the Youth Union and organizations.
