Over the past years, the Navy Academy has taken various methods to improve its education and training quality, contributing to building Vietnam people’s Navy to be revolutionary, elite and modern to catch up with the requirements in the new situation, firmly protecting sea and islands sovereignty.
Training innovation
In order to improve the quality of teaching and learning, the Navy Academy has focused on heightening public awareness of the viewpoints and policies on education and training of the Party, the State, the Party Central Committee, the Ministry of Defense; attached special importance to reviewing, renovating and improving training programs in line with the requirements for the development of the People’s Navy.
The training programs have covered updated practical information and knowledge, based on actual training and combat readiness of naval units to meet the requirements and future development with focus given on updated, sufficient, basic and suitable knowledge, meeting 3 objectives, namely high quality (knowledge, capacity, quality), high efficiency and high efficiency; comprehensive measures to facilitate students to achieve all-round excellence in terms of knowledge, skills and morals.
In 2017 alone, the Navy Academy completed innovating 18 curricula, meeting the training targets and requirements in the new situation. Regular teaching method innovation was maintained together with equipment investment in labs, training simulator systems, etc.
Developing cadres and teaching staff's capacities
At present, 64.7% of lectures at the Navy Academy are postgraduates, 13.7% of whom are PhDs. Developing the teaching staff’s quality is considered as a decisive factor in improving the training. The Navy Academy has focused on assessing teaching staff quality and selecting and honoring excellent lecturers.
In addition, the Navy Academy has developed cooperation with training institutions at home and abroad to send cadres to professional development courses, especially in automation; weapons for submarines, anti-submarines; weapon research and development; naval engineering; opened professional development courses for lectures, particularly young ones. Moreover, every week and month, lecturers take part in professional meetings, teaching demonstration, etc to exchange teaching experience and skills.
The Navy Academy has set the targets till 2020 and the vision till 2030 with sufficient teaching staff and the reserve ratio of 10-20%. 100% of lectures will have post-graduate diplomas, 15 - 20% of which are PhD degrees. 10 - 15% will be associate professors and PhDs. All commanding cadres will have PhD degrees. Besides, 100% of faculty cadres and 70% of deans will take the positions of cadres at regiment, brigade levels or equivalent ones. 100% of teaching staff will have informatics and foreign language qualifications as required for teaching, scientific research, etc.
In the time to come, the Navy Academy will continue investing in infrastructures and promoting pedagogical culture; taking great effort to provide an idyllic modern learning environment, contributing to building the Vietnam people’s Navy to be revolutionary, elite and modern to catch up with the requirements in the new situation, firmly protecting sea and islands sovereignty, according to Colonel, Associate Professor, PhD Nguyen Van Lam, Director of the Navy Academy.
