Natural disaster control and prevention propaganda boost

72 years ago, on May 22, 1946 , President Ho Chi Minh signed the decree No. 70 on the foundation of the Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention & Control, formerly known as the National Committee on Dike Prevention.

On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of Vietnam’s Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Day (May 22, 1946 – 2018),  Le Xuan Thai, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Irrigational Agency, Deputy Director of the Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention & Control Office has noted that  72 years ago, on May 22, 1946 , President Ho Chi Minh signed the decree No. 70 on the foundation of the Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention & Control, formerly known as the National Committee on Dike Prevention. 
 
On March 21 1990, the Prime Minister, formerly known as Chairman of Minister Council, signed the decision No. 89 to design May 22 as the Vietnam’s Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Day in order to confirm the importance of natural disaster control and relief, raise public awareness of their responsibilities and effort to build a society resilient to natural disasters.
 
In recent years, the impact of climate change has increased with extreme weather events, causing great property damage and life loss; therefore, natural disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation have been focused to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
 
Khanh Hoa has held many activities in response to the Vietnam’s Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Day. Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has issued an Instruction No. 08 on natural disaster prevention, control, rescue and relief in Khanh Hoa in 2018.
 
Khanh Hoa Province has also directed local departments, agencies and localities to fulfill the natural disaster prevention and control tasks; strengthen and assign specific tasks to members of the Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention & Control at all levels; review the natural disaster prevention and control plans; integrate the work into the local socio-economic development plans to assure social security; cooperate closely with search and rescue forces to timely response to any emergency cases, fulfill flood prevention and control; natural disaster and emergency planning for preparedness, response, and recovery tasks; protect the lives and property of the country and people.
 
Moreover, more natural disaster prevention and control propaganda, education and training have been enhanced to raise public awareness of climate change adaptation; flood control and prevention skills via workshops, rehearsals, posters, handouts and other mass media.
