In recent years, annually, more than 300 experts and international tourists from Nha Trang University come to Nha Trang University to take part in scientific research and workshops or search for cooperation opportunities. The university receives 30-40 international students to join short-term and long-term exchange programs in English and French.
Apart from attracting international students, Nha Trang University has also searched for opportunities for nearly students to attend short-term, long-term courses or international summer camps. However, not many students have taken the programs due to high costs of studying in developed countries. The university is trying to develop cooperation programs with international partners, opening more learning opportunities. The recent cooperation with Nevada University, Las Vegas (UNLV), U.S.A is working towards student exchange between the 2 universities, says Associate Professor - PhD Trang Si Trung, Principal of Nha Trang University.
Reportedly, Nha Trang University and UNLV signed a cooperation agreement in 2014. The cooperation is based on the grogram founded and sponsored by an overseas Vietnamese Do Thi Tuyet Nga in UNLV. Nha Trang City-born Do Thi Tuyet Nga is a successful businessman in the U.S.A. The program is intended to provide opportunities for lecturers and students of 2 universities to study, exchange experience and promote training cooperation, scientific research and cultural exchange to enhance the friendship and cooperation of the 2 universities. Annual cadre and lecturer exchange is under way under the program. A cadre of Nha Trang University is taking a PhD course at UNLV.
Associate Professor - PhD Trang Si Trung says the two universities are signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Besides continuing with cadre exchange programs, the two universities will study student exchange models. At present, UNLV is providing courses about Asian studies with a plan to add some knowledge about Vietnam to the curricula and organize fund-raising events to take students on field trips to Nha Trang University.
Technical departments of Nha Trang University also have plans to choose groups of students with excellent scientific application studies to take part in annual international scientific summer camps held by UNLV. Accordingly, the two partners are discussing ways to develop the plan and provide support for students to promote scientific initiatives to get chances to international summer camps and scholarships to attend graduate programs or short-tem courses at UNLV.
The effort of the two universities is intended to bring students experience in working in a dynamic international environment, widen their knowledge as well as promote the understanding and strengthen the friendship, contributing to developing the relation between Vietnam and the U.S.A.
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is a U.S top public university founded in 1957. At present, the university has an enrollment of 30,000 students, including over 1,000 international ones. With a top-ranked hospitality program, its hospitality program offers students chances to serve their apprenticeship in hotels in Las Vegas and hundreds of tourism businesses are also engaged in the university training and recruitment.
