The Action Month for Children (June 2018) themed “For a safe and healthy life for children in the digital world” is scheduled to take place in June with numerous practical activities towards the protection of children’s rights, especially protection of children from abuse in the digital world, says Vo Binh Tan, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
Specifically, there will be a workshop on making the digital world safe for children’s development, promoting kids’ Internet security; training classes for kids on the protection of their rights and safety skills in the digital world; and social networking safety tips. Besides, more education and propaganda in various forms will be boosted to raise public awareness of the children’s safety issues.
In addition, a children’s forum will be held at province, district and township levels to provide children throughout the province an opportunity to voice their feelings, thoughts and suggestions to make sure a safe and healthy life for them in the digital world. Besides, practical summer activities will take place for kids and students to learn and have fun. Schools, local communities, Youth Unions and social organizations will cooperate in organizing safe and entertaining summer activities; opening classes on swimming, first aid for children; developing programs to help protect children from the perils of the digital world and increase their access to safe online social networking, etc.
Local departments, agencies, organizations and communities are required to join effort to organize the activities effectively; assign officials to closely cooperate and supervise activities in communes, wards and townships, integrate the content in propaganda activities and mobilize public participation in child care, education and protection. The activities must be practical, feasible and suitable for children in their communities. Families also need to actively engage in their children's education.
Moreover, local agencies, organizations, military units, religious establishments organizing educational courses for kids in summer are required to assure their safety, integrate the knowledge and skills related to self-protection; violence, accident and injury prevention into the training program; enhance inspection in water or traffic accident-prone places to assure safety for children in summer and rainy seasons; conduct inspection over Internet service businesses to keep kids safe online in accordance with the law on cyber information security.
