Foreigners voluntarily collecting litter on Ba Lang Beach, Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang City every morning have become a familiar sight for nearly 1 month now.
Every morning at 6am, a group of foreigners together with some Vietnamese people are seen collecting trash, skewers, bottles, plastic bags, boxes, etc left behind by revealers on the beach or from the sea. Just after 15 minutes, all their rubbish bags are full. “It is dangerous to step on skewers. They can hurt our feet. However, some people are lazy or don’t care about it and just drop it on the beach,” says Kulpin Alexsander, a Russian man.
This is the 8th time Kulpin Alexsander has come to Vietnam. He says he has great love for Nha Trang because of its mild weather and friendly people. Particularly, he loves the beach and enjoys swimming and diving. He sees some rubbish in the water while diving, so he and some of his friends decided to found a rubbish collection group, spending a little time every day to pick up trash on the beach. Now, there are about 20 members from many countries such as Germany, Japan, the USA living and working in Nha Trang City together with some Vietnamese people working for restaurants and tourism companies in the city.
A member named Bui Thi Khanh Ly says they all share the same interest in environmental protection. Joining the group, all of them are eager and willing to do the environmentally good deed. “We love Vietnam” is the message they would like to deliver through the meaningful activity.
Another volunteer named Kulpina Irina has been living in Nha Trang City for a while. She loves Nha Trang City very much. However, she feels dissatisfied at some people’s littering on the beach. “I love Vietnam and I hope others will join our effort to keep the beach clean. My daughter and grandchild also come here on the summer vacation. They also help us to tidy up the beach every morning,” adds Kulpina Irina.
Seeing the good deed of the foreigners, some local residents nearby have also joined hands to pick up trash and carry the trash to dustbins. “This meaningful action delivers a message of environmental protection. Every morning, I also help the foreigners with the trash collection on the beach. I hope more and more people will be aware of environmental protection and take actions to keep the environment clean and healthy,” says a local resident named Ho Trong Duy.
