The procedures on the investment in a clean water supply in Dai Lanh Commune, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province are being completed and expected to benefit thousands of local families suffering from water shortage.

For several years, clean water has always been a concern in Dai Lanh Commune. Especially, in the dry season, hundreds of households are in lack of clean water. The local gravity water supply system is not able to provide enough water for locals. Many have to travel to buy buckets of water for daily use.

Dong Nam Village is in dire need of clean, safe and drinkable water, particularly in dry seasons over the past 3 years. In the current hot season, water from wells is salty and thus unusable. Nearly 360 households with over 1,400 people are actually in need of fresh water, reports Ngo Kiet, Head of Dong Nam Village.

There are 2,760 households with 11,300 people in Dai Lanh. The commune water supply system is able to serve only 30% of the local population. The lack of clean water affects daily activities and life quality. The natural scarcity of drinking-water is a big problem. Despite the local authority’s effort, a clean water supply system for long-term use cannot take shape due to unfavorable geography and soil conditions; and lack of funding, according to Tran Dinh Thu, Chairman of Dai Lanh Commune People’s Committee.

Reportedly, in April 2017, Khanh Hoa People’s Committee approved in principle the investment in a clean water supply system in Dai Lanh Commune. The project is invested by Licogi 9.1 Company with a total capital of VND19 billion and expected to be developed for 26 months. The company is completing construction investment procedures.

Accordingly, more than 1,200m2 of land owned by 3 families will be affected by the project. The regulated compensation for forest land is at VND26,000/ m2. However, businesses and localities have discussed to offer a higher compensation at VND70,000/ m2 which is considered to be reasonable cost and satisfy harmonious interests of the two the parties. Compensation for crops on the land will be calculated regulated by the State, according to Tran Dinh Thu.

With the great effort of localities and the company, the project promises to be developed soon to meet the clean water needs of thousands of families in Dai Lanh.
