Khanh Hoa Department of Industry & Trade has just issued a food reserve preparedness planning for natural disasters in 2018.

The preparedness planning plays an important role in the supply of food, drink and other essentials for natural disaster-affected communities, especially in the 2 mountainous areas of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh, which are prone to disruption in flood.

In case of natural disasters, local communities need to implement the emergency aid plan. Compulsory purchase orders on food, foodstuff, petrol and other will be issued by Khanh Hoa Department of Industry & Trade when in need to meet emergency needs of local residents, especially in remote areas which are vulnerable to be inundated for a long time.

Based on actual conditions and needs, the emergency food supply is to assure enough safe food and water (for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc.) available in the event of a natural disaster or emergency. It includes 20,735kg of food (13,050kg of rice, 58,000 packets of instant noodles; 7,250 packets of dry provisions), 14,500kg of foodstuff (8,700kg of canned food), other necessities such as 58,000 bottles of drinking water, 323l of petrol, 2,030l of kerosene; 1,933 mats and 1,933 mosquito nets, mostly stored at companies’ storehouses, 2,000kg of rice stored at the provincial depot.

The food reserve for two districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh will be distributed by Khanh Son Center for Service & Trade and Khanh Vinh Center for Service & Trade. The food reserve will include rice, drinking water, salt, cooking oil, sugar, instant noodles totaling VND1.4 billion (VND500 million for Khanh Son and VND900 million for Khanh Vinh).

When natural disasters occur, assigned agencies will give emergency food supply and prepare means of transport available to reach communities cut off by flood to make sure efficient and prompt supply of food and necessities. Khanh Hoa Department of Trade will coordinate with concerned localities to identify main areas for emergency food supply preparedness with priority given to disadvantaged areas and those with poor transport infrastructures.

Besides, the department will suggest Khanh Hoa People’s Committee and the Ministry of Industry & Trade would call for support from other sources from other communities in case of severe massive damage and insufficient food supply from the provincial food reserve, according to Le Hoang Tho, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Industry & Trade.
