Founded in 1988, Khanh Hoa Union of Science & Technology Associations (KUSTA) has made constant effort to confirm its role in gathering intellectuals and members in scientific and technological activities and criticism consultancy, contributing to the provincial socio-economic development.
Membership development and Social criticism role focused
At present, KUSTA has 36 member organizations with more than 75,000 members. KUSTA has gathered leading experts in consultancy and criticism on investment programs, plans and projects on the human resource development program, period 2012 – 2015 and vision till 2020; socio-economic growth planning till 2020 and vision by 2030 of districts and towns in Khanh Hoa and other planning; contributed ideas to the scheme on building Khanh Hoa to become centrally-governed type 1 city by 2025, vision by 2030.
The recommendations made by the Advisory Council have played an important role in improving the quality of provincial programs, projects, planning and policies as the bases for local socio-economic development. In the meanwhile, KUSTA has developed many provincial and grassroots -level researches, namely Khanh Hoa Party Committee leadership with the youth task, period 2006 – 2011; building the noodle dryer system in the traditional craft village of Dien Thuy, Dien Khanh; building a residence management database for state agencies; proposed some areas where coral reef ecosystems can be regenerated for marine eco-tourism. The studies have been applied in reality, bringing economic benefits and thus improving local life.
Successful contests
Moreover, KUSTA has focused on activities to promote and honor the contribution of scientific and technological intellectuals and local residents to the socio-economic growth; and nurture future generations of scientists. KUSTA has successfully organized and co-organized many contests. Specifically, the annual creativity contest for teenagers has been held for 7 times with the entries increasing in quantity and quality year by year, 23 submissions in the 2005 first contest and then up to 454 in its 7th event. 3 third and 1 consolation prizes have been awarded in the national creativity contests for teenagers with products on new rural construction and collections of dry plant specimens. The Scientific & Technical Contest has honored and awarded many practical solutions and researches.
The development of KUSTA over the past 30 years has been thanks to the guidance of the provincial leaders and the enthusiastic contribution of KUSTA members. However, there still remain some disadvantages related to its limited operation mode and failure to draw the participation of scientific and technological intellectuals from enterprises and Vietnamese intellectuals from abroad, etc, according to Bui Mau, KUSTA Chairman.
In order to achieve the target to become a strong political organization by 2020, KUSTA continues strengthening and developing its organization and schemes on professional development; boosting the operation of its member organizations in the direction of enhancing professionalism and efficiency of professional activities; renewing the content and mode of operation; taking the initiative in providing consultancy and social expertise on programs and projects; actively propagating scientific and technological knowledge; raising the quality of contests, etc.
