The Sate Gastronomy Project, specialized in food and nutrition, run by Lovan Gastronomy Investment Company, Ho Chi Minh City, has cooperated with Village Hostel at 172/19 Bach Dang, Nha Trang City, to organize a moon cake workshop for foreign tourists and locals, especially children to experience moon cake making, try making moon cakes and thus understand more about traditional Vietnamese food culture. All the cakes made at the workshop will be offered to needy children in Khanh Vinh Mountainous District at this Moon Festival on September 24.

Many children aged 4-10 accompanied by their mothers and some foreign tourists attended the event in a cozy atmosphere at Village Hostel where Nguyen Dinh Long, Director of Sate Gastronomy Project, the founder of Moon cake Workshop chains, from Ho Chi Minh City gave moon cake making guide and then everyone were encouraged to make his own cakes.

Tran Ngoc Dong Anh knew about the workshop from the Facebook and found it quite interesting and helpful. She took her two daughters named Do Tran Bao Ngoc, 9 years old, and Do Tran Bao Chau, 5 years old, to the workshop to get exciting experiences and develop skills. “It’s so fun to make cakes. I like mixing and beating dough the most. Now I know how to make moon cakes. I can help my mum to make cakes at home,”  happily says Do Tran Bao Ngoc.

Earlier, the two little girls had taken part in a bread making program at Tam Viet Nha Trang Center. Tran Ngoc Dong Anh hopes there will be more such interesting activities for children to explore and develop skills.

Not only girls but also boys enjoyed mixing flour, filling, layering, shaping and wrapping cakes like real bakers. Phan Thi Khanh Ngan, the mother of a 7-year-old son, thinks this activity is a good chance to experience moon cake making and it is also a charity activity as all the cakes made at the workshop will be offered to children in need in Khanh Vinh District. She also hopes the event will help her son to experience the joy of bringing happiness to others and his family; value labor and foster creativeness.

The event is in the Sate Gastronomy project event chains jointly held by hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang City, including Village Hostel on September 11-24 to promote traditional Vietnamese cuisine and tourism service; and raise charity fund for ethic minority children, says Village Hostel Representative named Nguyen Mai Huyen Trang.

Having operated for only 2 years, Sate Gastronomy project with the Moon cake Workshop chain has left impression on foreign tourists as the workshop is a unique event where Vietnamese young people and foreigners can meet, share and improve traditional food cultural understanding, according to Nguyen Dinh Long. “I attended a moon cake baking class. It’s quite laborious yet so interesting. Plus, all of the moon cakes that we’ve made were donated to homeless children in Vietnam,” commented Ronette Lasin (the Philippines).
