Road drainage systems in Nha Trang City are under repair and maintenance to assure travel safety during the coming rainy season.
The lane in Quarter 1 Vinh Diem, Ngoc Hiep Ward, which used to be inundated just after 5 minutes of rainfall, is in a dry condition, despite heavy rain for the recent consecutive afternoons. Tran Thi Truc, a local resident says, "Rainwater used to accumulate on the roads due to poor drainage. Things have changed thanks to the repair on the drainage system last month. We are so happy."
Reportedly, Ngoc Hiep Ward People’s Committee has invested in repairing road drainage systems in many places in Quarter No. 1 Vinh Diem with a capital of nearly VND2.4 billion; Quarter No.4 Ngoc Hoi, VND1.95 billion; Quarter No.2 Vinh Diem, nearly VND1.7 billion; Quarter No.7 Lu Cam, over VND1.1 billion; Quarter No.2 Ngoc Hiep, more than VND987 million.

Nguyen Ngoc Chinh, Chairman of Ngoc Hiep Ward People’s Committee says, the road drainage systems have been damaged, causing accumulated water on roads in rain due to the recent urbanization. The drainage repair and maintenance have been done in many places to assure travel safety ahead of the rainy season. The work is expected to continue in Quarter No.12 Vinh Hoi in early October, with a capital of some VND900 million financed by Nha Trang City People’s Committee. The work on other lanes is waiting for funding to begin in 2019.
Besides, 8 drainage canals in Vinh Ngoc Commune are also being accelerated at the progress rate of over 80%. Le Van My, Chairman of Vinh Ngoc Commune People’s Committee says the total of capital for the projects is some VND8.8 billion funded by Nha Trang City People’s Committee. The work is expected to begin in May and finish in October.
“This is an urgent work of many localities, including Vinh Ngoc Commune. The drainage repair projects have satisfied locals living on roads in poor drainage conditions. We will try every effort to complete the work before the rainy season. 6 more lanes are waiting for funding to start the work in 2019,” adds Le Van My.
Reportedly, the drainage systems in other wards are also under repair thansks to Nha Trang City People’s Committee’s funding of over VND3.3 billion for Phuong Son Ward, more than VND3.7 billion for Phuoc Tan Ward, over VND1 billion for Vinh Hai Ward.
According to the investment plan 2018, 21 wards and communes in Nha Trang City are allocated the capital of over VND69 billion for the investment in the drainage systems. The repair and upgrading of the drainage system in wards and communes in Nha Trang City will help facilitate travel and thus assure traffic safety in the coming rainy season, says the leader of Nha Trang City Office of Finance & Planning.
