Adolescent reproductive health care education has been boosted and proved effective in Nha Trang City thanks to various activities jointly held by the Youth Union, contributing greatly to protecting and improving adolescents’ health.
Dang Thi Quynh Nhu, Head of the Population Department, Nha Trang City Health Center says some teenagers have limited knowledge about reproductive health care. Therefore, every year, Nha Trang City Steering Broad for Population task develops a plan to cooperate with Nha Trang City Youth Union and other departments and organizations to join effort in reproductive health care education and family planning propaganda, especially among adolescents.
Specifically, in 9 months in 2018, there were 950 pieces of news and articles; 4.787 home visits, 246 consulting sessions, thousands of leaflets on reproductive health care and the law on population & family planning with an aim to boost adolescent health care education, helping to raise teenagers’ awareness of adolescent health care, prevent gender inequality at birth, cut unintended pregnancy, prevent sexually transmitted diseases and get teenagers well-prepared for their future healthy marriage life.
15-year-old Le Uyen Han, Phuong Sai Ward Youth Union member, says, “Joining the Youth Union activities, I feel more confident because I can get aware of helpful knowledge about gender, reproductive health care and safe pregnancy prevention methods. I can share the knowledge with my friends to help protect ourselves.”

“Thanks to the Youth Union, I can learn a lot of knowledge about the law on population & family planning and benefits of premarital health care. I know how to behave in my opposite-sex friendship and have better orientation in life,” says Nguyen Huu Nghiem, 16 years old, Phuong Sai Ward Youth Union member.
In recent years, Nha Trang City Youth Union has cooperated with the Center for Population & Family Planning (presently Population Department) to boost population and family planning education and propaganda for teenagers and young adults via a wide variety of activities and channels such as meetings, posters, parades, leaflets, talks, forums, workshops, club meetings, etc. The knowledge is integrated in the ward Youth Union activities every month and every term. Besides, the Youth Union has paid educational home visits; cooperated with population officials to improve professional knowledge of population and family planning propagandists, etc, according to Tran Thien Dao, Secretary of Phuong Sai Ward Youth Union.
