Many private nursery schools in Nha Trang City have native English teachers to teach English to kindergarteners.

John Connolly, an American teacher, has been living in Nha Trang City for more than 10 years. He is teaching English at Lam Son Nursery School, Lam Son Street, Nha Trang City. In his class, young kids, 3 and 4 years old, seem to be excited learning vocabulary about fruits, household items and things around in a natural and fun way.

Nguyen Thi Linh Hoa, Phuoc Hai Ward, says her child was a little shy on the first day learning with a foreign teacher. However, a few days later, the kid became more confident in speaking English. She believes that learning with and talking to a foreign teacher will help her child have better pronunciation and gain more confidence in communications, especially when speaking in front of others.

Le Thi Giang Hoa, who is in charge of Lam Son Nursery School says there are 8 English language sessions each month and 2 of which are with foreign teachers. During the sessions, Vietnamese assistants are also present to make sure the kids feel comfortable, less shy and understand lessons better. Both kids and their parents are pleased with her children’s learning English with native speakers who can make English learning fun, interesting and filled with creativity.

Nursery schools that have contracts with English-speaking teachers include Be Hanh Phuc, Thuan Hoa, Tai Nang Viet, Thien Than, etc. Be Hanh Phuc Nursery School, Hoan Kiem Street, Phuoc Hoa Ward, has signed a contract with native English teachers from Art ASA Company, Nha Trang City. There is 1 lesson with a native speaker every month. Learners become more motivated in class and have perfect English accents, says Le Tran Mai Chi, the owner of Be Hanh Phuc Nursery School.

Tran Thi Ngoc Suong, Director of Art ASA Company says the company has linked with more than 10 nursery schools in Nha Trang City in the supply of English-speaking teachers for kids from 3 years of age. The project has been developed for more than 1 year with the aim to provide opportunities for Vietnamese learners to learn English naturally from the young age. At present, the center has nearly 10 qualified teachers from the U.K, U.S.A, Australia, etc. The teachers meet requirements for teaching demo and qualifications.

At present, 24 nursery schools are developing an English teaching program with native speakers. The program is also under consideration by Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training as careful eligibility assessment is required. The program has not been developed in public nursery schools yet. Learning with native English teachers will help young kids to get access to a new language naturally and thus have perfect English pronunciation, says Pham Thi Chau Anh, Deputy Chief of Nha Trang City Division of Education & Training.
