In order to proactively respond to natural disasters, Cam Ranh Border Station has taken various natural disaster prevention and control, focusing on propaganda to improve community awareness and boost resilience to natural disasters.

During these constant rainy days, Cam Ranh Border Guard Station has strengthened its forces to timely give storm warning to fishermen and residents in fishing community, especially in coastal high-risk areas to reinforce homes and prepare sufficient safety devices before fishing trips.

1Cam Ranh Border Guard Station officials give natural disaster prevention and control knowledge.

“My house is by the sea. We live on fishing. We are regularly reminded of natural disaster prevention and control  by border guards to protect human life and property, especially before and during rainy seasons. Last year, my house was badly damaged by storms and Cam Ranh Border Station staff helped us clean up and rebuild the house,” says a resident named Trinh Hoa Cu in Loi Thuy Quarter, Cam Loi Ward.

In recent years, Cam Ranh City has been affected by tropical storms and typhoons, causing massive destruction to livestock, aquaculture, houses, etc. Therefore, the unit has enhanced propaganda to raise public awareness of flood control and prevention preparedness to boost the resilience to disasters in rainy seasons.

Especially, the unit has promptly coordinated with local organizations to give storm warning to ships and guide them to safe anchorage and shelter; mobilize aquaculturists to move ashore; and guide people in sunken coastal areas to move to safe places, according to Major Ha Van Nam, a mass mobilization cadre, Cam Ranh Border Guard Station.

Moreover, before rainy seasons, Cam Ranh Border Guard Station has given counseling to the party committees and local authorities of communes, wards, departments and organizations to assure natural disaster emergency preparedness, ensure smooth communication network for response and recovery tasks; minimize damages and loss of lives and properties.

“Natural disaster control and rescue are our important tasks. Therefore, the border guards are present at the scene of natural disasters to give support and help with evacuation of residents out of dangerous areas. We always focus on propaganda and coordination with local authorities on response plans; particularly on natural disaster control, search and rescue to ensure prompt and effective response to natural disasters during rainy seasons,” says Captain Nguyen Thanh Quang, Deputy Head of Cam Ranh Border Station.
