Various activities have been held in Khanh Hoa Province in response to the campaign "stop gender discrimination, stop gender-biased sex selection" on the occasion of the
International Day of the Girl Child 2018 themed “With Her: A Skilled GirlForce”.
Phan Van Giap, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Branch for Population & Family Planning says messages conveyed include taking action to protect girls from child marriage, ending gender discrimination, family violence and school violence. In Khanh Hoa, there are a wide variety of activities to raise awareness of gender imbalance, call for gender quality; provide related health care consultancy and services, etc.
The population sector plans to hold various activities to call for joining hands in combating gender discrimination and gender-biased sex selection. Khanh Hoa Office for Population & Family Planning will cooperate with Le Hong Phong High School, To Van On High School, Van Ninh District to hold an exchange program with propaganda and health care “Touching the future” for nearly 1,000 students.
Besides, the branch has cooperated with the General Office for Population & Family Planning and Bayer Vietnam Company to open a propaganda session themed “Women lead active life” to convey the messages of contraceptive benefits ranging from improved maternal and child health to the empowerment of women, more financially secure families; organize a knowledge contest on contraception for better family life quality; cooperate with the provincial and district Women’s Unions to integrate information about gender imbalance at birth into specialized talks; Resolution 21-NQ/TW on population tasks in the current situation; integrate propaganda activities themed gender imbalance at birth in Khanh Hoa Province, etc.
In the time to come, the branch will carry out many activities in line with the plan for implementation of the project on monitoring the imbalanced sex ratio at birth during 2016-2020; plan on the implementation of the project on strengthening reproductive health counseling and care for adolescents and young adults in the period 2018-2020; in coordination with Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, integrate information about imbalanced sex ratio at birth into activities at political schools, high schools, colleges, universities and medical schools.
At the grassroots level, communication activities will be boosted to propagate the law on the prohibition of gender-biased sex selection; provide premarital counseling, reproductive health care services; integrate information about imbalanced sex ratio at birth into local cultural and social activities. All is to call for joint effort in stopping gender discrimination and gender-biased sex selection for the sake of girls, families, communities and the whole society in response to the International Day of the Girl Child.
