Besides doing business with endeavour to improve laborers’ life, Khanh Viet Corporation (Khatoco) together with its Trade Union has shown social commitment to community benefits, contributing to the gratitude movement as well as poverty alleviation effort inside and outside Khanh Hoa Province.
According to a Khatoco representative, apart from production and business development, Khatoco has focused on charity work for the sustainable development of the corporation in general and the Trade Union in particular. Khatoco has delivered a message on the corporate social responsibility, getting its staff involved in community activities, contributing to the local socio-economic development.
Every year, apart from other kinds of subscription, Khatoco mobilizes its staff to donate 2 days’ pay to the social charity funds. The Trade Union has donated more than VND4.65 of the charity funds to Yersin – Khanh Hoa Charity Clinic; the care of heroic Vietnamese mothers in Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Quang Ngai; school infrastructure construction in Ninh Hoa Town, Phu Hoa District, Phu Yen Province; Tam Phu Commune, Tam Ky, Quang Nam Province; scholarships to disadvantaged students, schoolbags, notebooks and clothes to poor children; New Year gifts to Khanh Hoa Social Service Center, the charity kitchen at Khanh Hoa General Hospital, flood relief in the central region, house construction for the poor in Cam Lam District; new year gifts to the poor in the areas where Khatoco subsidiaries are located. In 2015, Khatoco funded VND153 billion of the construction of Le Quy Don Gifted School, Nha Trang City.
Besides the charity activities in Khanh Hoa, Khatoco has also provided assistance for the poor district of Thong Nong in Cao Bang Province to implement the government’s program 30A on sustainable poverty alleviation. Accordingly, the corporation has developed 3 charity programs to donate scholarships to poor students, fund house construction for the poor and disabled; and create jobs for the locals by the expansion of material zones.
Specifically, scholarships worth VND2 million each; house construction grants, VND12.5 million each, for 9 poor families; VND20 million/ housing grant for 2 war invalids and martyrs’ families. Moreover, Khatoco has also focused on developing tobacco material zones to create stable jobs for more than 1,600 people, contributing to reducing poor homes to 360. The corporation has also sponsored VND2.4 billion of the construction of a nursery school in Vi Quang Commune, Thong Nong District.
Khatoco's charitable activities have not only provided material support to the disadvantaged but also contributed to maintaining and developing relationships among colleagues and compatriots towards the community in the spirit of solidarity, social responsibility and the national tradition of mutual support, according to Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, Vice-Chairman of Khatoco Trade Union.
