Schools in Khanh Hoa Province have taken various measures to raise students’ awareness of traffic safety.
Various propaganda approaches
Khanh Vinh District Division of Education & Training has directed schools to boost traffic safety measures such as mobilizing managing and teaching staff, students and their parents to sign pledges to take traffic safety responsibility; integrating traffic safety education in academic studies and extracurricular activities; cooperating with the district Traffic Safety Board to put up banners and posters; handing out leaflets on road safety skills to high school students. Other traffic safety propaganda activities include talks, workshops, painting contests, knowledge contests, school broadcast, etc.
One teacher in Khanh Hoa advanced to the national round of the “Safe Traffic for Children's Smile” competition jointly held by Ministry of Education & Training, National Traffic safety Committee and Honda Vietnam Company. The School Traffic Contest drew the participation of more than 12,100 students with 1 student winning the first prize at national level. Besides, Khanh Hoa education sector has received and distributed over 23,800 helmets to first-graders in the 2018 – 2019 school year under the guidance of the Ministry of Education & Training and National Traffic safety Committee.
Inspection boost
Road crash injuries and fatalities among students are often caused by speeding, distracted driving, failure to wear motorcycle helmets, misuse of lanes, etc. Accidents among students mostly occur during rush hours and at weekend. Traffic jam around schools during the closing time is among factors posing high risks for road crashes.
Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has requested traffic police and the National Traffic safety Committee at all levels to cooperate with the sector of Education & Training on propaganda on traffic safety as well as inspection and punishment for violations of traffic rules.
In addition, the Traffic Safety Committee in cooperation with the People’s Committees of localities has mobilized local residents to sign pledges against underage driving, not allowing their children, without driving licenses, to drive motorbikes to school; and reported the names of students violating traffic rules to the department and schools to make education and propaganda more effective, according to Le Dinh Thuan, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training.
