Vietnam People's Navy, specifically the Naval Headquarter, Region 4, has organized a trip to deliver New Year gifts from the mainland to the Truong Sa Island District. The New Year gifts have shown the great concern and affection of the Party, the State and people for soldiers and residents on the far-off islands.
Three ships 561, 571 and KN 491 left Cam Ranh Military Port for the Spratly Islands at 4pm on January 4. Before the departure, trucks carrying gifts from all parts of the country had called at the port. Packages of products had been hurriedly loaded onboard by naval soldiers.
According to Rear-Admiral Nguyen Duc Vuong, Political Commissar of Naval Region 4, apart from gifts regulated by the Ministry of Defense, Vietnam People's Navy, the Naval Headquarter, Region 4, there are presents from Khanh Hoa Province and many other cities, provinces, individuals, organizations and businesses nationwide. Specifically, the State President offered VND100 million, the Fund for the Spratly & Paracel Islands donated VND700 million; the Youth’s Club for the Homeland Sea & Islands: VND150 million together with nearly 100 Kumquat plants, 100 Bougainvillea plants and 300 lemon trees; Ho Chi Minh City House of Culture: VND100 million, Da Lat Flower Association: 500 orchid plants, etc.
Since early December 2018, the Party Committee of the Naval Headquarter, Region 4 has focused effort to assure a warm New Year holiday for officials, soldiers and residents in the island district. A cooperation plan with localities has been made on the selection of affordable high quality products together with careful packaging and transportation.
The departure ceremony took place on the afternoon of January 4. Officials and soldiers showed their eagerness and excitement to the join the trip. Private First Class Huynh Tan Hau says, “This is my first time’s mission to the island. I feel so excited. The warm ceremony made me moved and proud as a naval soldier to protect the sacred maritime sovereignty of the country.” The eagerness and excitement were also mixed with emotional moments with personal goodbye kisses and hugs. Officials and soldiers’ determination and their relatives’ sentimental support were such a great encouragement to the mission to fulfill their assignments.
Joining the working trip were not only carders and solders but more than 140 journalists of local and national news agencies and members of the Youth’s Club for the Homeland Sea & Islands. The 22-day trip is expected to reach 21 islands in Truong Sa Island District.
Addressing the see-off ceremony at Cam Ranh Military Port, Vice-Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee Nguyen Dac Tai, on behalf of the Khanh Hoa Party Committee and residents, wished the cadres, soldiers, journalists and residents in Truong Sa Island District good health, happiness and work fulfillment in the coming new Lunar New Year.
