On January 28, the rescue ship SAR 27-01 of the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (VMRCC) brought a U.S tourist named Haddock Richard Ray, 77, ashore to Nha Trang Port for emergency treatment at Vinmec Nha Trang Hospital.
Earlier, at 7:00 on the same day, VNMRCC received the SOS signals for emergency medical assistance from the captain of Seabourn Ovation (Bahamas) when the ship was 78 sea miles from Nha Trang coast to the north. Haddock Richard Ray suffered from acute bowel obstruction with such symptoms as severe bloating, abdominal pain, vomiting and immobility.
