Extracurricular activities have helped improve Young
Pioneer movements and teaching at primary and junior high schools.
The Young Pioneer Detachment of Ninh Hiep Primary School No.3, Ninh Hoa Town has held a school trip to the historical vestige of C235 Ship and 16-7 Statute where pupils could learn and understand more about the national tradition of struggle for peace and independence.
A pupil named Nguyen Ngoc Chau says, “The extracurricular activity helps us remember better about history. This is the first time I have been to the historical vestige. I was told about those who have devoted themselves to the mystery of Ho Chi Minh trail. I become more interested in learning history.”
The Young Pioneer Detachment of Le Thanh Tong Junior High School, Ninh Hoa Town has organized an educational trip with 100 students to Gac Ma Memorial Site in Cam Lam District. The Young Pioneer Detachment of Chu Van An Junior High School is developing a model named “experiencing scientific creation at break time”, drawing the participation of many students. They have fun with gardening, cultivating and taking care of such vegetables as scallions, cabbage, water spinach, etc. The income from the garden goes to the operation funding of each Youth Union group.
The activity provides a chance for students to learn from experience, promote group work and improve well-being and health during the break time. In Nha Trang City, many Young Pioneer Detachments have boosted extracurricular activities for students to have fun and remember what they have learned better.
The Young Pioneer Detachment of Vo Van Ky Junior High School regularly organizes various extracurricular activities, namely “Salt and life”, “anti-drowning” linked with knowledge and skills from such subjects as physical education, chemistry, biology; and visits to craft villages of bronze casting and rice cakes. Both academic subjects and extracurricular activities complement each other, making learning more efficient and enjoyable, says Teacher Pham Duc Huan.
Nguyen Chinh An, Chairperson of Nha Trang City Comrade Associate says academic-related extracurricular activities have been widespread at schools. The city has 67 Young Pioneer Detachments, 70% of which have organized academic-related extracurricular activities and 100% have held educational trips to military units.
In the recent 3 years, extracurricular activities have been required to be held at schools with at least 1 activity a year. Truong Tan Hung, Standing Vice-Secretary of Khanh Hoa Youth Union, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Comrade Association says extracurricular activities have been widely organized at school, contributing to improving education as well as inspiring students’ passion for learning. “Extracurricular activities have been effectively carried out thanks to the active coordination and direction of the Department of Education & Training. The Provincial Comrade Association will maintain and promote such rewarding activities for students,” adds Truong Tan Hung.
