Khanh Hoa Association for the Blind has provided economic development loans, vocational training and house construction grants to help the visually-impaired to improve heir life.
Community integration
Over the past years, Khanh Hoa Association for the Blind has constantly developed with 40 branches and 1,200 members so far. The association at all levels has always provided its members with much support in many ways to make their life easier and happier.
Thanks to the concern and support from the local authorities in assisting the visually-impaired by creating favorable conditions in terms of working equipment, infrastructures for academic and vocational training, economic development loan offer and employment, the blind have tried their best to overcome obstacles and integrate into the community.
Over the past year, the association has frequently mobilized and encouraged its members to learn Braille with 25 classes for 500 students so far. Besides, dozens of classes on healing massage have been opened.
In addition, local vocational schools have also provided training support for nearly 200 people. Khanh Hoa Association for the Blind has also focused on developing the production of brooms, incense, mats and toothpicks with the turnover of more than VND3 billion, getting an average monthly income of over VND1.5 million/person.
Moreover, Khanh Hoa Association for the Blind at all levels has focused on creating jobs for more than 130 blind people with an average income of VND2 - 2.5/month each. A good example includes Anh Sang Healing Massage Establishment owned by Nguyen Tuan (Hoa Lu Street and Hong Bang Street, Nha Trang City), creating jobs for nearly 30 blind people. Another establishment owned by Ha Thi My Hanh (Tran Nhat Duat Street, Nha Trang City) is creating work opportunities for nearly 10 people with low vision.
Much assistance
Furthermore, Khanh Hoa Association for the Blind has also created favorable conditions for more than 1,500 blind people to get loans worth over VND5 billion from the National Funding for job creation. More than 900 people have benefited from the social charity fund for business development with the capital turnover of over VND2 billion.
Le Van Thang, Chairperson of Khanh Hoa Association for the Blind says 1,800 blind people are offered monthly allowances and medical insurance cards. Annually, more than 15,000 people are offered gifts to on national holidays. Especially, the Fatherland Front Committee at all levels have done a survey and provide financial aid totaling VND1.5 billion to repair and build more than 70 houses for the blind in housing need. Every year, over 80 blind people’s children is offered scholarships and school things.
"The State and local authority have encouraged businesses to create jobs, especially for the blind. We will continue take good advantage of the support and assistance from the local authority of departments to open vocational classes, offer economic development loans to poor blind members to expand production to improve income to help the blind,” adds Le Van Thang.
