The Action Month for Children themed “Joining hands for the sake of poor and ethnic minority children” is scheduled to take place on June 1-30.
The Action Month for Children has become an annual program over the past years. This is the concentrated month for local authorities, communities, families and individuals to take care of children, responding to activities to fulfill the targets for children’s sake.
Over the past years, various activities have been held such as entertaining activities, gifts to children in need on the New Year’s Day and Moon Festival; free screening examination for thousands of children with disabilities, cleft lips, cleft palates, acquired heart defects or eye diseases. Amusement sites for children include cultural houses, libraries, parks, etc. Every year, the province also seeks donations from departments, individuals and organizations to help disadvantaged children overcome difficulties and improve their life.
The theme “Joining hands for the sake of poor and ethnic minority children” shows the effort to implement more effectively policies and programs to provide equal access to medical care, education, protection, care, clean water as well as other social welfare service for poor children and those of ethnic groups, among others; and assure a sound and safe summer vacation.
The Action Month focuses on delivering the message of getting together for the sake of poor and ethnic minority children, creating equal opportunities for all children, listening to their ideas, taking actions to protect children and assuring a safe and sound summer vacation for all children. In June, the local authority will enhance communication activities to raise public awareness of laws and policies for the poor and ethnic minority children; fight against child marriage, dropout and abuse; denounce child abuse or violence; promote accident and injury control and prevention; mobilize organizations and individuals to donate to the Fund for Children to finance meals and construction of school facilities and entertainment zones, along with scholarships and medical checkups for children in need.
The localities are required to make a list of children taking part in local summer activities for better management; organize suitable entertaining, musical, physical, sporting activities deeply bearing cultural characters; frequently check and repair places at high risks of drowning and traffic accidents; provide children with life skills; violence, abuse, accident and injury control and prevention skills; focus more on models to promote child participation rights, etc, says Vo Binh Tan, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
