The national railway section running through 6 districts and towns in Khanh Hoa Province has a total length of 15km. According to the General Department of Railways, since 2016, some problems have occurred on the railway running through Khanh Hoa, especially the section through Ca Pass which was cut off and closed for some time due to flooding in 2017. Repairs or upgrades are also needed at the km 1226 + 780 Hao Son- Dai Lanh, Phong Thanh- Luong Son, Luong Son-Nha Trang.
 
Le Hong Son, Deputy Director of the Railway Transport Branch says the section through Ca Pass has been solidified after the landslide in 2017. The railway tunnel through the Ca Pass needs repairs or reinforced to assure traffic safety.

Reportedly, in July 2018, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued the Resolution No. 556 approving the plan on using VND15,000 billion from the reserve funding of the State Budget’s medium-term financing, period 2016-2020.
 
The project on upgrading and improving some sections of the Nha Trang - Saigon railway is one of 14 important and urgent traffic projects approved in principle by the Ministry of Transportation with a capital of VND1,850 billion. The Railway Project Management Board has been assigned to make a feasibility research report.
 
The Ministry of Transportation has approved the building estimation and tender selection plans with bidding documents to choose tenders, survey consultants, make a feasibility research report and evaluate environmental impact.
 
The Railway Project Management Board is going to complete and then submit the feasibility research report to the Ministry of Transportation in September 2019. The project is expected to be approved in October 2019, start construction in April 2020 and finish in 2021. The Ministry of Transportation plans to spend more than VND50 billion on the investment preparation, drawing design, site clearance staking, project management, etc.
 
At the recent working session with Vietnam Railway Brach, Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board has suggested the railway sector provide the project information and files on essential railway constructions of Nha Trang - Saigon section, and make plans on investment in some deceleration humps at railroad crossings.
