The Action Month for Children 2019 themed “Joining hands for the sake of poor and ethnic minority children” in Van Ninh District has received much concern and support from organizations and individuals for poor children’ sake.
Variety of practical activities
Van Ninh District has nearly 32,700 children, including 336 needy and 4,843 vulnerable ones. Over the last years, the local authority and departments in the district have boosted child care and education, focusing on poor and vulnerable children. Since the beginning of the year, the district has jointly provided medical examination and screening for 300 disabled children and given aid worth more than VND36 million to the needy, according to Vu Thi Kim Trinh, Chief of Van Ninh District Division of Labor War Invalids & Social Affairs.

In addition, the local authority and departments have also boosted mobilizing benefactors to join child care effort, donating nearly VND90 million in cash and in kind. Van Ninh District Children’s Fund has received VND76 million to help poor children. Accordingly, 13 bikes and 100 gifts totaling nearly VND100 million have been offered to poor and disabled children. Nguyen Thi Kim Thu, one of 100 recipients in Van Phuoc Commune says, “I’m so happy to receive the grant which is an such a great encouragement for me in study.”
Apart from material support, the local authority and departments have also shown their concern through activities to help poor children to achieve all-round development. Van Ninh District Youth Union at all levels has organized a wide variety of activities, including developing the youth work for children, mobilizing resources to assure social welfare policies reach those in need. In this year’s Action Month for Children, the Youth Union at all levels has jointly held various cultural and sporting activities to make sure a sound and safe summer vacation for children, says Ho Van Vo, Vice-Secretary of Van Ninh District Youth Union.
Child care focused
Tran Trung Thong, Vice-Chairman of Van Ninh Commune People’s Committee says the local authority has paid much concern over child care and education. No case of child abuse or violence has been reported so far. However, the commune has 28 needy children and 340 vulnerable ones. Therefore, the local authority continues boosting child care and support for the needy.
Vo Luc Pham, Vice-Chairman of Van Ninh District People’s Committee says apart from community support, it is essential to provide children, especially in a vulnerable group, with knowledge and skills to protect themselves from violence, abuse and injury. Child protection and support will be boosted to help those in need.
Van Ninh District has done a good job in child protection, care and education in a joint effort to ensure every child benefits from the caring, secure and nurturing environment. The locality needs to boost raising public awareness as well as mobilizing resources, including parents, to enhance the target efficiency, says Vo Binh Tan, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs has offered 100 life-jackets to children in Van Ninh District. In 2019 – 2020 school year, the department plans to present 13 scholarships worth VND2.7 million each to needy students.
