Joining hands to help the needy

Since the beginning of the year, Khanh Hoa Red Cross has implemented several humanitarian activities worth more than VND29 billion, benefiting nearly 140,000 people in the first 6 months.

Benefiting many people


In response to the Humanitarian Month, Khanh Hoa Red Cross in association with Vingroup’s Kind Heart Foundation, Khanh Hoa Salangane’s Nest Company and some benefactors gave free medical examination and medications to seniors in Ninh Hiep Ward, Ninh Dong Ward and Ninh Binh, Ninh Hoa Town in late May.
The charity work was worth over VND170 million. Five hundred old people were provided medical examination and counseling related to arthritis, blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc. Besides, they were offered gifts and medicine bags.

In mid-April, Khanh Hoa Red Cross in cooperation with Khanh Vinh District Red Cross and local authorities held a house handover ceremony for the poor in Khanh Trung Commune, Khanh Vinh District. The charity work was funded by Isabelle Charity Association (French). This is the 2nd time in 2019 Khanh Hoa Red Cross in cooperation with Isabelle Charity Association has financed the construction of 7 houses for the poor in Khanh Vinh Town with a total support of VND343 million so far. Cao Thi Kim Hue, Khanh Trung Commune, one of the families benefiting from the house construction grant says, “We are so happy to live in a new safe house. From now on, we are no longer worried about the rain and sunlight coming through the roof thanks to the help of Khanh Hoa Red Cross, local authorities and French volunteers.” Mobilized by Khanh Hoa Red Cross, Isabelle Charity Association plans to continue providing support in Khanh Hoa this July.  These are among charity activities jointly held by Khanh Hoa Red Cross in Khanh Hoa since the beginning of the year.


Several charity activities


For the first 6 months, Khanh Hoa Red Cross at all levels has joined raising funds to help nearly 140,000 people through charity activities totaling more than VND29 billion, accounting for 63% compared with the 2019 plan. The social work was reported to gain the highest efficiency at over VND22 billion. Accordingly, in the movement "New Year Festival for the poor and Agent Orange victims”, the Red Cross at all levels has mobilized and donated more than 48,800 New Year gifts worth nearly VND15 billion; The campaign "Each organization and each individual is associated with a humanitarian address" has helped more than 2,260 people with a total value of nearly VND3 billion; The program "Cow Bank" has mobilized and granted 85 breeding cows, providing many with livelihoods to raise their income and escape from poverty. Besides, many benefactors, sponsors, agencies, departments, businesses and organizations inside and outside the province have been mobilized to give hundreds of scholarships, wheelchairs, bicycles, food, housing grants to the poor, the disabled, Agent Orange victims, etc with a total value of over VND4 billion.


In addition, the association at all levels has jointly provided free medical check-ups and medications for nearly 4,000 arrivals; first-aid training for 540, epidemic prevention and control, traffic safety and environmental hygiene training for nearly 15,000 people; mobilized sponsors to provide financial support for 86 people with cataracts; offered 350 life jackets to Brigade 162, Naval Zone 4 and Khanh Hoa Division of Education & Training; maintained the operation of charity hospital kitchens. Moreover, 61 blood donation drives have been held, collecting more than 10,800 units of blood, achieving 60% of the plan.


The achievements are thanks to provincial authority's support and direction as well as many local and foreign individuals and organizations' assistance. However, there remain some difficulties, especially in raising fund for humanitarian activities and staffing shortage in some places, including Cam Ranh City and Dien Khanh District. In spite of difficulties, Khanh Hoa Red Cross at all levels has set a target to fulfill and exceed plans, build a blood donor management software and support schemes in case of natural disasters, according to Phan Dinh Huan, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Red Cross.
