The 2019 Vietnamese Family Day is themed “Maintaining and promoting traditional family behavioral culture”.
Le Thi Mai Lien, Vice-Chairperson of Khanh Hoa Women’s Union says traditional Vietnamese cultural values in families need preserving, maintaining and promoting. Families are the foundation of society and healthy families are the foundation for a healthy society. Traditional family values are part of the most important aspects of Vietnamese culture for thousands of generations. However, life has changed so much, regarding traditional family ethnics and bonds due to negative effects of market mechanism.
Nowadays, many people seem to be so busy working that they have little time eating with their family members; spending time together, sharing ideas, experience, showing understanding and care. Besides, limited awareness of family values is also blamed for less time family members spend together.
To preserve and promote traditional family values, it is important for families to share meals together. Family meals provide a valuable opportunity for family members to come together, get closer, strengthen ties and receive mutual care after a day of work. Several cultural values are shown through family meals. Most importantly, everyone in the family is aware of the role and meaning of the family. Everyone in the family must be responsible for contributing to family happiness. Parents should set good examples for children to follow from their very infancy. Women play an important role in preserving sustainable development and happiness in the family. Today, men and women have equal rights, but it is advisable that Asian women keep their traditional values of diligence, patience and sacrifice.
As families play a crucial role in social development, the Women’s Union has organized several activities to help women keep their families happy and healthy, focusing on raising family happiness and child care knowledge and skills; marriage and family law knowledge contests; cooking contests; founding happy families’ clubs with social evil prevention, sustainable happy families’ clubs, providing support for household economic development, providing knowledge and skills for social evil control and prevention; health care, etc for women and families.
In response to Vietnamese Family Day on June 28, the Women’s Union at all levels will boost propaganda and organize activities integrated with local emulation movements to bring practical benefits to members; commend and honor outstanding individuals, models and initiatives in the emulation campaigns; strengthen and promote happy and healthy family clubs, and community support service which gives women advice and assistance in solving some social issues.
Moreover, on the occasion of the Vietnamese Family Day June 28, Khanh Hoa Women’s Union in association with Khanh Hoa Department of Culture & Sports plans to hold Khanh Hoa Sustainable Family Development Contest 2019; in cooperation with the culture department hold talks, workshops, and musical and sporting contests to honor outstanding families.
