The annual Vietnamese Family Day (June 28) is to honor traditional family culture towards sustainable family development in the modernization, industrialization and international integration trend. The “Cozy Family Meal” Contest aimed to raise public awareness of the value of families and moments family members sharing meals together.
Nha Trang City has just organized a culinary contest themed “Cozy Family Meal” with the participation of 25 teams from sustainable development families’ clubs in the city. The event aimed to provide an opportunity for families to widen knowledge about nutrition and develop cooking skills; remind of the value of time family members spending together and honor effort to keep families happy. “Though the contest, I would like to remind families of the importance of family meals. Family mealtime should not be neglected for any reasons, including stress of work," says Nguyen Thi Cam Trang, Vice-Chief of Nha Trang City Division of Culture & Information.
“Family meal time provides a valuable opportunity for all people to get closer, share stories and ideas and receive mutual care and love among grandparents, parents, couples and children. Family meals furnish a means for daily communication and thus strengthen family connections among generations," confirms Pham Thi Thu Binh, Residential Quarter 1, Phuoc An Hoa, Phuoc Hai Ward.
Family meals are a good chance for strengthening family ties, sharing love and care and thus building better relationships. Tran Thi Kim Dieu, Vinh Tho Ward says her family used to sit together for meals. However, there went days without sitting down as a family to share a meal and have conversation. Meal time is a great moment for family members to get together, allowing parents an opportunity to be aware of and monitor their children’s moods, behaviors and activities, encouraging each other to fulfill responsibilities for families, the community and society, says Nguyen Thi Cam Trang.
The theme of the contest reminds everyone of the value of family meals as a good way to build better relationships and stay happy. It is advisable to appreciate moments spent together at the dinning table to keep families happy, cultivate family tradition and promote and preserve traditional Vietnamese cultural values, according to Nguyen Thi Cam Trang.
In response to Vietnamese Family Day on June 28, the local Culture & Sports sector has organized such activities as roving film shows, contests, talks and sporting tournaments in the National Action Month against Family Violence and Vietnamese Family Day June 28. Besides, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture & Sports has cooperated with Khanh Hoa Women’s Union to hold a contest for sustainable development families’ clubs 2019. Moreover, the department has also given guidance to local departments and agencies, organizations and People’s Committees of districts and towns to celebrate the Vietnamese Family Day to raise public awareness of the important role of families in society.
