Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has given approval to Nha Trang City’s People’s Committee’s project on building community-funded public rest rooms in Nha Trang City and creating a restroom locator app to help pinpoint restrooms easier with mobile phones in an effort to keep Nha Trang tourism environment green, clean and beautiful.
In 2018, Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism made a plan on a community-funded project on building public rest rooms under the guideline of Khanh Hoa People’s Committee and the Administration of Tourism. In September 2019, Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism issued a plan on community-funded public rest rooms and Nha Trang City was chosen to pilot the plan, according to the leader of Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism.
Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism has suggested individuals and organizations engaged in the public participation plan would keep the public restrooms open free of charge and voluntarily donate funding to the operation of the public facilities. Besides, manufacturers and businesses are mobilized to finance equipment and accessories for the restrooms and install restroom identification signs.
Currently, pubic restrooms in Nha Trang City are mainly at the beach parks on Tran Phu and Pham Van Dong Street. A recent survey on 66 main streets with a boundary line of 20m or more shows that 100 public restrooms are required to meet the need of tourists, says Le Tien Vinh, Director of Nha Trang City Management Board of Public Services.
Nha Trang City Management Board of Public Services has mobilized hotels and restaurants to repair and upgrade their existing restrooms for free use. Public restroom identification signs will be installed at the hotels and restaurants and then a public restroom locator app will be created to allow tourists to view the nearest public restrooms on a map or in a list while traveling. “The plan has got the thumbs up from many hotels and restaurants and 10 hotels and restaurants have registered so far to give support to the project,” adds Le Tien Vinh.
In the time to come, Nha Trang City will build 5 underground restrooms at the beach parks on Tran Phu Street and Pham Van Dong Street; and the 23-10 Park; and renovate 3 restrooms at the Youth Park and Football Stadium. At present, Nha Trang City Management Board of Public Services is surveying existing restrooms at the beach parks for making suggestions submitted to Nha Trang City People’s Committee.
