A conference on natural disaster control for the Central Region and the Highlands was held by the Permanent Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention & Control in Nha Trang City on July 5. Present at the event was Tran Quang Hoai, Vice-Chairman of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention & Control, General Director of the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority; and Dao Cong Thien, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee.
In 2018, 14/21 natural disasters occured in the Central Region and the Highlands, causing 58 dead and missing with VND2,290 billion of damage. Especially, there were severe landslide and flooding in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa and flooding in provinces from Quang Binh to Phu Yen. In early 2019, the hail and cyclone killed 3 people and injured 1; Prolonged hot days and drought occurred in several provinces.
At the conference, representatives shared experience in responding to natural disasters 2018 and the natural disaster preparedness plan 2019.
