The 2019 Children’s Forum held by Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs in association with Khanh Hoa Youth Union has provided an opportunity for children to express their thoughts, concerns and aspirations.

90 kids in Khanh Hoa Province and SOS Nha Trang Children’s Village joined a dialogue and discussion on social issues affecting children. Cao Thi Lua (Khanh Son District) showed her concern over child abuse risks while Kieu Le Minh Khanh (Nha Trang City) expressed her worry about child labor and abuse. Besides, other issues that children mentioned included learning pressure, lack of amusement parks for children, kidnapping, etc.

Besides a direct dialogue, the organizing board delivered forms to children to fill in their questions, suggestions and addresses to which response letters will be sent to. All the children’s ideas and aspirations were taken into consideration by representatives of local authorities.

Khanh Hoa Public Security has directed local police to have better tracking of those previously convicted of sexual abuse and thus have effective prevention plans. All child sexual abuse cases have been strictly handled in accordance to the law to help protect children and assure their rights. In the time to come, Khanh Hoa Public Security will continue boosting propaganda and education to raise families, schools and the community's awareness and responsibilities of prevention measures in an effort to increase the resilience of those at risk, according to Senor Lieutenant Colonel Dang Hoang Long, Vice-Chief of Advisory Office, Khanh Hoa Public Security.

It is forbidden to employ workers under 12 years of age. Workers from ages 13 to 15 may be hired to do light work. It is necessary to raise parents and employers’ awareness of the law on age-based work restriction to save child abuse victims and help them to integrate into the community, according to Nguyen Dinh Hong Loan, Vice-Chief of Social Service, Children & Gender Equality, Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs.

The forum has provided opportunities for provincial leaders and authorities to understand children’s feelings, thoughts, suggestions and aspirations and thus have direction on the implementation of child protection policies and promote community involvement in ensuring children’s rights, says Vo Binh Tan, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
