Since early 2019, Khanh Hoa Children’s Fund has offered thousands cartons of milk to children in need in Khanh Hoa thanks to Vietnam Milk Program Fund in an effort to improve needy children’s nutrition, helping them to be physically and mentally healthy.

Reaching out to those in need

SOS Children’s Village Nha Trang has received more than 9,000 cartons of milk from Vietnam Milk Program Fund to be offered to 100 orphans and vulnerable children. “I am so delighted that SOS Children’s Village Nha Trang is among 8 beneficiaries from the milk program. Such social support and assistance mean a lot in helping the pitiful children to have good nutrition and develop well,” says Director of SOS Children's Village Nha Trang Le Hung Nghe.

Huong Duong Orphanage, Nha Trang City, has also received 2,016 cartons of milk for 22 children. “For lack of resources, children here are likely to get inadequate dietary intake. Thanks to the milk program, children drink milk more often and their weight and height have improved.

The rate of child malnutrition is still high in the 2 mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh. Phan Thi Thanh Nhan, Chief of Khanh Son Division of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs, says 2 orphanages in Khanh Son have received milk from the program. Through Khanh Hoa Children’s Fund, this year, the district has received 2,790 cartons of milk to be offered to the 2 orphanages where 31 children are living.

Milk program expansion expected

According to a report by Khanh Hoa Children’s Fund, 8 orphanages and social service institutions in Khanh Hoa have received 44,010 cartons of milk for poor and vulnerable children for 9 months in 2019. Children have been instructed how to safely store milk for nutritious milk drink.

A child is offered 1 carton of milk every day within 90 days. However, the program hasn’t reached all those in need in the mountainous district. Hopefully, more disadvantaged children will receive such aid from Vietnam Children’s fund as well as benefit from similar activities to help reduce the prevalence of child malnutrition in mountainous areas, adds Phan Thi Thanh Nhan.

Khanh Hoa Children's Fund will have suggestion on continuing Vietnam Children’s Fund’s milk program for malnourished children at nursery schools, orphanages, social service centers and institutions in Khanh Hoa, says Luu Thi Ngoc Lien, Acting Director of Khanh Hoa Children's Fund.

The Vietnam Milk Fund presided over by Vietnam Children’s Fund in a collaboration of Vinamilk was founded in 2008. In 2019, The Vietnam Milk Fund has given nearly 1,560,000 cups of milk, equivalent to about VND10 billion to more than 17,000 children. The milk program has provided nearly 35 million cups of milk worth nearly VND150 billion for 440,000 children in need for 11 years so far.
