Over the past years, the women’s campaign on overcoming challenges to escape from poverty and become wealthier launched by Khanh Hoa Women’s Association has gained satisfactory achievements. Many women have proved their ability in business, contributing to improving living standards and promoting local economic growth.
Good examples of overcoming challenges to success
Le Thi Quy, 57, residing in Cam Thanh Nam Commune, Cam Ranh City is running a lotus seed business. She used to work for a lotus seed product business in Cam Loc Ward. In 2002, the business faced difficulties, so her income went down. She decided to start her own business with collecting lotus seed materials from other households and processing lotus seeds manually, shelling, peeling skin, core removal, etc. Her business has gradually developed, bringing stable earnings, creating jobs for 70 women and part-time summer work for students with an income of VND3-3.5 million/ month.

Apart from creating jobs for women in the locality, Vo Thi Bich Thao, Chairperson of Cam Thanh Nam Commune Women’s Association has helped poor women and sponsored 2 disadvantaged children in the commune. She is always enthusiastic in the campaign on women’s activeness and creativity in family economic development.
Vo Thi Thu Thuy, Head of Ngoc Diem Village Women’s Association, Ninh Ich Commune, Ninh Hoa Town, Head of a commercial fish production business used to live on fishing and aquaculture. However, with two children, her family suffered from financial difficulties. She decided to invest in 10 pomfret fish farms at Hon Lang, Nha Phu Swamp. 6 months later, the first harvest gave her family an income of more than VND40 million. She got a job creation loan of VND50 million to invest in additional 20 farms of other kinds of fish, namely Groupers, red snappers, Asian sea basses, etc. Her work has been running smoothly, giving her an average profit of VND170 million/ year.
Variety of support campaigns
Through a variety of activities and campaign on women's mutual support in household economic development, Saving Day for Poor Women, etc, providing assistance in terms of capitals, labor, supply of breeders, seedlings and so on, Khanh Hoa Women’s Association at all levels has helped 10,325 poor women so far and 4,956 families with women as householders.
Besides, the Women’s Association at all levels has continued developing many saving models to help needy women at 1,025/1,025 branches. At present, there are 1,731 rotating savings groups, 1,372 mutual support and saving groups, 15,730 piggy banks with a saving balance of more than VND72.9 billion, etc drawing more than 130,000 members.
Moreover, the provincial Women’s Association at all levels in partnership with the Farmers’ Association, Agriculture Extension Center, etc have opened 44 training courses on fruit growing, epidemic control in aquaculture for 1,914 women together with job recommendation and creation for 4,513 women.
