The traffic network in Khanh Hoa Province has gradually improved with increasing surfaced inter-village and inter-commune roads, giving a brighter appearance to the countryside.

A recent survey shows that more than 2,570km of road is being managed by communes. All communes have carriageway access to commune centers and the road quality has much improved thanks to the new rural construction program.

Over the past years, Van Ninh District has focused on investment in infrastructures, especially rural traffic network, facilitating travel and production. 100% of road access to the center is asphalt and concrete; 70% of inter-village roads have been surfaced, allowing automobile traffic; 70% of alleys have been surfaced; and 70% of roads in and out of fields have assured the transportation of farm produces. 9/11 of communes have met the rural traffic criteria. As planned, the locality needs to mobilize some VND60 billion to complete the rural traffic network upgrading in the 2021 – 2025 period, according to Vo Luc Pham, Vice-Chairman of Van Ninh District People’s Committee.

From various resources, in recent years, communities have actively improved roads, contributing to painting a brighter picture of the countryside, facilitating production and improving life. The systems of rural roads and bridges have been developed year by year. Besides funding from the State budget, many households have donated and cleared land for rural public work, reports the leader of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation.

Rural traffic infrastructures have much improved, facilitating travel, saving time and reducing cost. Traffic obstruction in mountainous areas in rainy seasons has been eased with the construction of solid suspension bridges. 60/94 communes were reported to meet the traffic criteria in the new rural construction program at the end of 2018, says Chu Van An, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation.

Besides remarkable improvement in the recent years, there are some challenges that need to be sorted out in the time to come. They include lack of funding for road maintenance. Most of the funding has gone to road repairs during the Tet Festival and after flooding. Other problems are lack of proper rural traffic network management due to staffing shortage, limited funding for building inter-village roads, etc.

To tackle the problems, the department has suggested that Khanh Hoa People’s Committee would balance the non-business capital allocation for regular rural traffic management and maintenance, meeting regulated levels; have measures for traffic management boost in rural and mountainous areas; increase workforce, etc, says Chu Van An.

In addition, another suggestion given by the department to Khanh Hoa People’s Committee includes assuring legal mechanism to promote local residents’ role in road infrastructure development in rural and mountainous areas. Localities are required to enhance mobilizing residents to donate days of service to clear pesky brush and weeds; dredge ditches and especially donate land for making public roads.
