Used tires have been converted into dustbins, tree pots and outdoor toys by Youth Union members and young people in the project named “The second journey of tires” launched by the Central Youth Union.

Khanh Hoa Youth Union has just launched a playground with toys such as swings, see-saws and tree rings made from recycled tires in Ninh Binh Commune, Ninh Hoa Town. “This is the first time I have seen a playground with toys made from used tires. My son likes it very much,” says a resident named Tran Huu Nghia, Ninh Binh Commune.

Khanh Hoa Youth Union has developed youth work, using recycled tires in order to boost the campaign against plastic waste. Used tires are cleaned and decorated to be transformed into toys or tree rings. The tire recycling program is helping protect the environment by keeping scrap tires out of the landfill as well as save cost for the youth work with innovative solutions. Apart from the work in Ninh Binh Commune, the tires have been allocated to Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh to develop the tire recycling program, according to Nguyen Khac Duy, the Secretary of Khanh Hoa Youth Union.

Reportedly, the tire recycling project launched by the Central Youth Union aims to mobilize its affiliations to develop work using recycled tires. Accordingly, several Youth Union affiliations have developed the model. Van Thang Ward Youth Union, Nha Trang City, has made 11 dustbins and 2 tree pots out of used tires at Van Thang Nursery School, 2-4 Nursery School, Trung Vuong Junior High School, etc in Van Thang Ward.

“The program is quite practical and creative, helping raise public awareness of plastic and rubber waste reduction. We have also shared our solutions with other local Youth Union affiliations for development,” says Nguyen Sanh Hiep, the Secretary of Van Thang Ward Youth Union.

The Youth Union of Khanh Hoa Provincial agencies has just put a playground with many toys made from recycled tires into use on Diep Son Island, Van Thanh Commune, Van Ninh District, helping to build more places for children to play.

Truong Tan Hung, Vice-Secretary of Khanh Hoa Youth Union says the Second Journey of Tires is being boosted by Youth Union affiliations, including Cam Ranh City Youth Union, Dien Tho Commune Youth Union (Dien Khanh District), Communist Youth Union of Khanh Hoa Provincial agencies, etc. Popular useful products made from used tires include outdoor toys, public dustbins and tree rings.

Moreover, Khanh Hoa Youth Union is coming up with a plan to develop a model on libraries with desks, chairs and bookshelves made from used tires. Over the past years, the use of eco-friendly and recycled materials has become more desirable. With the project on the second journey of tires, Youth Union affiliations have contributed to promoting the widespread campaign against plastic waste. In the time to come, Khanh Hoa Youth Union will continue developing and expanding the model across the province.
